  • thinking about a fridgedor.......

    evening all,
was thinking about getting a new humidor recently since my wee adorini desktop humidor is maxed out and there were more cigars i was wanting to get! originally i was going to get another adorini desktop to match the one i already own! problem is, i was hoping to get some bigger sized sticks and i'm not really in a position to spend big money on a bigger humidor as well as all the cigars i desire!

right, getting to the point, i recently read about using electric wine coolers to store cigars!!! this would suit my budget and my need for bigger storage! this one caught my eye:

with rough calculations, the maximum temperature seems to be around 64˚F, which seems okay! the only thing i'm not sure about is if the shelves can be removed (they should be able to)! details are quite vague, but it's a wine cooler and it's cheap!

what do you guys think? if i do go for this option, i would hope to spend no more than around ?100 (less if i can help it)!

    thanks,

    alex

I posted about the exact same one mate. Im not sure if the shelves are removeable, though cant see why not. I opted to get another 7 drawer and hang on for a cabinet.

    They do look good though.

I was planning to use it without the cooling , just wanted it airtight

      cheers lee!!!!
the problem (???? lol) i'm having at the moment is my desktop humidor is a 75ct! i never imagined filling it when i bought it, now it's maxed out (i've also got a few ikea jars with boveda packs in them to take the overspill)! i've got my eyes on boxes of the following:
      magnum 50
      epicure especials
      p2's
      siglo vi's
      dukes

buying a decent desktop to house these will cost me, and since i only really smoke robustos, i was looking at the aging potential of these and keeping them in their boxes (i reckon i'll only have a few of these bigger cigars a year)!!! this looks like it should do the job, though i still need a little convincing!!!! lol

      all the best mate,

      alex

If you aren't so concerned about the cooling, there's always the cooler/tupperdor route. It's not so pretty as a proper humi but that's more money for cigars...

            My storage box is here.

              hey dave,
cheers for the heads up on this one! i never even thought about this option! it would suit my needs and my budget beautifully!!!! as i said, i'm hoping to get a few boxes in the next 2 months and it's just a case of sorting out a cheap means of storing them! as and when i need to, i'll take a few sticks out and put them in my desktop humidor!!!!

this is definitely a serious contender!!!! thanks mate,

              all the best,

              alex

I was thinking about this too. I'm still undecided. I think I'm just going to play things by ear, even though I'm at the point where I can no longer buy any more sticks to store. I have to smoke what I have first - not that I mind.
                Thanks

Well if i had my way i'll be going for a very large wine cooler as something to tie me over. :P

Realistically, I don't even have room for a little one. My plan; to slip a little one in when the kitchen is redone. Then reclaim it shelf by shelf :P.
                      Thanks

have a look in staples. I got a big wheeled box added draft excluderto seal the lid, some beads and it makes a nice home for bulk storage.

Read Lee's post on this and reckon it's a good idea.

Also got me thinking "maybe my wine is too warm and humid!" A day wasted later, messing with a hydrometer (credo one with the temp read out too) and to my surprise it was! So I wasted the following day looking into wine fridges.

Back to the relevant. A lot of wine fridges have some humidity regulation (wine, or rather the corks, I guess, like about 60%.) Some of these can be customised, some can't and I'm wondering if that Argos one has something like this built in but not on the specs?

If it's still up to scratch, maybe we should all put in a bulk order? :P

I've been looking into this as a temp solution. Or aleast as a starting point. The only problem that I see being the location that it could go in. I originally specked an 18l box, but after looking around I think I might need bigger. Then again storage of the box itself being an issue.
