Cigar storage problem

I have a problem. The house i am currently living in has no central heating, just fireplaces in most rooms. The outside temperature gets very cold and also the rooms inside the house i am not using get very cold. Is it OK to store my humidors in my main living room whitch has a fireplace near them or should i store the humidors in another room and risk the temperature being too low?

EDIT: If i keep my humidor's in a room with a fireplace the temperature of the room is constantly changing when i adjust the fireplace or put it out. Will this harm the cigars?

jDawg has pretty much hit the nail on the head. The key question being, what is the temperature inside the humidor when it is in either of the rooms, and does it alter much over say 24hours.

I agree, but, IMHO, and from my experience, a moderate fluctuation is acceptable although undesired (yes, I know, the "purists" are going to disagree…).
You might keep the cigars in the room where the fireplace is, but far from the fireplace.

That said, and as far as I know, the effect of low temperature on cigars are still unknown… (?)

When i have the humidors in my main room that i am in with the fireplace on, the temperature inside the humidors at its highest is about 73 F. This is usually in the evening. In the morning when i check them the temperature is about 53-55 F.

I have yet to place the humidors in my other living room which is colder and me and the mrs are not often in so i will have to experiment with that.

53-55 to 73, on a daily basis, is too much IMO.
What if you place the humidor in the coldest place of the heated room?

Have ye not been in one of those freezing cold walk-ins they have on the continent? ("I am just going inside and may be some time.")

As others have said- consisent cold is definitely not a problem. Temperature fluctuations certainly are.

I lived in a place with a fire but no heating a couple of years ago. No electric lights either. The romance of it died around November-time, and I moved out in search of warmth... you are clearly made of sterner stuff. Good luck to you.

that is a tough call, mate...

The general consensus from what I have read is that 60 should be the lowest temp within a humi. Low temps will have an adverse affect on long-term aging, as will extreme fluctuation in temp.

At your current temp, you will need to keep an eye on your humidity levels to ensure that your smokes do not get overly dry. Cold temps do tend to withdraw humidity.

However, in my opinion, a steady low temp will be better than a significant daily fluctuation in temp.

Like others have mentioned, you could place the humi furthest away from the fireplace, and see what the daily fluctuation would be if not so close to the fireplace.

Your call, mate! Personally, I would leave it in the room with a steady temp.

You are better off in the coldest room. Avoid as much as you can temp fluctuations. Wrappers will burst inevitably one day.

53-55 is low. No doubt. Control the humidity. And since IMHO you would not expect to age cigars in humis, then you know what you are doing.
