  • Ben Wade Humidity Solution

    Hi guys,

Well just a curious teen (never smoked before and just want try cigars). Anyway, I'm going get some Romeo y Juliet Minis (box of 10) and don't want to buy a humidor just yet incase they aren't for me. I came across Ben Wade Humidity Solution - and just wondering - how is this used on the cigars to keep it in good condition (I mean, I can't imagine you applying to the cigar really)? And do the cigars need be put in a bag or can I leave them in the original box?

Sorry if it's a stupid question but eh - we all have to start somewhere.

    Cheers!

PS: Anyone ordered from http://www.uktobacco.com/ before??

I'm assuming you mean you're 18 or 19 Jason, so pop on over to Newbie Greets and say hello!

The Minis won't need humidification as they are 'drys'. Just buy 'em and smoke 'em. The humidity solution is put on the humidifier in a humidor to regulate the humidity. No need to buy it if you don't have a humidor.

That said, to get the idea of what a cigar is like, you might be better off spending that money that you were going to spend on the Minis and just buy one larger tubed cigar. The difference will be worth it!

I've not used the website you mention. Take a look at cgars for a good range of tubed cigars. The Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill is often recommended to beginners.

Hi Jason - If you are just trying out a few minis then you don't need to get bothered with humidity solution just yet. It will be fine to keep them in a ziplock plastic bag in their box for the time it will take you to smoke them.

Humidors and humidifying solutions are needed when you want to keep cigars for any length of time. It allows them to retain their flavour and age effectively - many good cigars improve over time and many Havanas need to be kept in this way for a year or so after manufacture to be smokeable.

After you have tried the minis you shold post again to get a few pointers towards some good cheap smokes. Some of the cheaper cigars are the best there are. Don't worry about asking stupid questions - we were all asking the same questions at one stage or another. You will get all the answers you need right here. Hope you enjoy 'em!

Cgars is a good place to start. You could try a Por Larranaga Petit Corona for a little less cash too.

Yeah, I'm legal age. Will post in that forum soon, dave.

I came across cgars last night so will probably buy from there as they sell the minis too. Will try a Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill too.

May I ask, how long would the minis last in a ziplock bag? Say a few weeks? Or do they need to be smoked within a few days? Reason I ask is, I'm not going be smoking a lot - just here and there.

Came across Trinidad Reyes cigars too. How are they? Nice flavours.

Go for a tupper solution with boveda, or for a small and cheap humidor buddy!

              Hi Jason
              Where do you live?

If you are just starting up smoking it's a good idea to find yourself a good local cigar store who can advise you.

If it's a really good store they will advise you on starter cigars and ways to keep them in good condition until you get the need for that first humidor.

Glad you have joined us here though, there is a wealth of knowledge here and we don't bite!

Seriously, the minis don't need humidification! I've got a pack that have been on my desk for nearly a year and they don't smoke ANY differently to the day I got them.

The Short Churchill and the Reyes will however, if you intend to store them. The Reyes is highly thought of round here. If you're only wanting to store a few cigars, one of those humibag things will do just great for a few months.

Reyes are excellent Jason, and if you are only going to be an occasional smoker, buying one of those, one at the time from a good tobacconist might be a better bet than mini's.

I smoke mini's, but they're never really around long enough to say how long they'd keep once you've taken the cello off, and a lot will depend on where you keep them.

Romeo y Julieta mini's are cardboard packed as are Montecristo and Cohiba. For mini's a better keeping option might be Partagas which are packed in tins.

From a smoking point I don't much favour the Romeo y Julieta or the Montecristo, I found them too often too tight to smoke. The Cohiba and Partagas are much better rolled, and I rarely find any failures.

From the cost point of view, in specialist tobacconists the Romeo y Julieta are the cheapest, followed by the Montecristo, Partagas and Cohiba in that order. But, if you go to Waitrose you will be able buy the Cohiba mini's for less than what you're currently paying for the Romeo y Julieta's.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

I'm going pick up some Partagas Minis instead.

I'm thinking of getting this cutter too or should I just use my teeth with minis?

                          HI Jason.
Go to 'cigars review' for a few pointers. I've found it quite helpful.
