  • Cigar aficionado's top 25 list 2009

Cigar Aficionado has just announced the #10, #9, #8 cigars for 2009.

The #10 cigar is the Partagas P2 Tubo rated at 92.

The #9 cigar is the Ashton Virgin Sun Grown Torpedo rated at 92.

The #8 cigar is the Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve Maduro Torpedo rated at 92.

The #7 cigar is the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Classic rated at 92.

The #6 cigar is the 601 Blue Box-pressed Toro rated at 93.

The #5 cigar is the Oliva Serie V Liga Especial Belicoso rated at 93.

The #4 cigar is the Diamond Crown Maximus Double Corona No. 1 rated at 93.

The #3 cigar is the My Father No. 1 rated at 94.

The #2 cigar is the Cohiba Siglo V Tubo rated at 94.

I will post updates as they are announced.

So far, I think some good choices have been made. The Partagas P2 rightfully deserves its place on the list.

          Predictions anyone?

I will be surprised if we don't see another Rocky Patel in the top 10 (call me Decade). He has been advertised heavily on the CA website, and in all fairness the Decade is a great cigar... Also, the Padron Anniv seem to be in the top 10 every year.

From Cubans, taking in account the recent ratings in their cigar insider, their highest rated cigars were the Partagas Salomones and the PR Valiosos...

Lets see what they'll give us tomorrow...

            Deserved.

I have smoked very few Dominicans and know very little about any of them to be honest, but I was gifted the RP a few months ago and it was a great smoke.

Well deserved of this position in the poll IMO.

              Oh my!

Impressive testing procedure! I used to think the CA Top 25 was just an effete listing of popular brand names. Now will have to seriously rethink the validity of the results.

              Thanks for the link, Drew.

Not too sure about the Rocky Patel being in there. I've smoked a few OWR Maduros, but haven't recently, maybe they've gotten better?

                    #7, #6, #5 were announced today

The #7 cigar is the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Classic rated at 92.

The #6 cigar is the 601 Blue Box-pressed Toro rated at 93.

The #5 cigar is the Oliva Serie V Liga Especial Belicoso rated at 93.

The 601 Blue deserves it place on the list. It is about time. I have been trying to tell you guys how good these are. The Oliva V makes the top 5 again this year.

I am confident that CAO's newest La Traviata will make the list this year. If not, I will be shocked. No doubt, the Padron 1926 will make the top 5 list.

I thought the RP OWR was a good call.

What will the #1 cigar be? The suspense is killing me.

I have yet to try any of these cigars. I have been wanting to try the My Father from Pepin, but have not done so yet.

My pick for the CA Cigar of the Year is the Padron Family Reserve 45th Anniversary Maduro. Just a hunch...
