I was discussing this on another thread but felt like we were going off topic so felt this deserved its own thread.

Gents, I'm not ashamed to admit it I like Backwood cigars. Yes cheap, ill shaped, machine made Honey Backwoods.

I feel as though I have came out of the cigar closet and a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Anyone got a problem with that?

The question I ask is what is your secret shame that you have yet to disclose to your fellow BOTL?

I'm aware there will be a few (wannabee?) toffs that visit these pages and will only smoke the biggest most expensive cigar (don't lose your monocle now!) but lets put these pretenses to the side. A good cigar is a good cigar.

as my biography reads i like a good cigar regardless of where its made....i like the backwoods too. have some right here! i wouldnt call it shame with me....gosh! i just call it having good taste! dutch masters, swisher sweets, rg dun....phillies and white owl all rock in my book.

I'm quite partial to the Havana Honeys Chocolate and Vanilla flavour. Never seen them over here though.

Not tried them, but I will now! I keep meaning to get round to trying some Swisher Sweets and some Villigers. I'm in town tomorrow so I'll pop into the Bear Shop and try not to buy anything from the humidor...

Dutch Indulgence

I'm partial to a Dutch Masters (Courtesy of my American connection or Dad as I call him) when golfing. I'll come clean, when time is short or the journey doesn't justify a hand roller, I quite enjoy a Dutchie! They are consistent and easy to smoke. Have had Phillies , English coronas, a plethora of cheapos and find most smokeable. It probably helps that I was an inveterate cigarette hound and they are a little crutch when needed. Havana's lift the soul, machine mades fill the gap!
This leads quite well onto a thread I was thinking of starting concerning taste. I am a newbie and I'm struggling to appreciate the subtle tones etc of really expensive sticks. Basically I enjoy all cigars and my meagre collection contains some very cheap NC's, which I find good after a while in the Love Nest. I just had a Rocky Patel Decade,highy rated, and whilst I found it great, I have had as good a time with far more humble sticks.
Question being:
Do ye BOTL of more discerning taste think appreciation increases with experience or are my taste buds shot from years of cigarettes? Don't mean to Hijack KDot's thread but I'm not sure how to lead from this thread to a new one.

i started off with phillies blunts and swishers, and i thought i was the top dog!!!! lol!! it's amazing, in new york, the cheapest place to buy phillies blunts was in chemists, $2 for a pack of 5, yet here in belfast the cigar shop charges ?17 for 5!!! insane mark up!!!!

i reckon so long as i can still get my blunts for ?1.50 each in a nameless city center news agent here in belfast, i'll still buy them from time to time!!!

also.......

i don't mind the castella panatelas for a quick 10 minute smoke with a cup of coffee!!! a fiver a pack, it cure an itch for the time being......

I dont really smoke anything shame worthy now but before I became a serious cigar nut and before the ban I would often buy a Hamlet from behind the bar and be quite happy.... if I was feeling flush I would even go for the 'posh' Hamlet.... couldnt do it now mind you

Nothing wrong with that. If I think hard enough I can still taste the paper.

Have they stopped making them now? Dont see them around much.
I suppose kids of today have chocolate Joints instead.

I've just thought, there is 'one more' secret shame that I'd like to get off my chest.
I hope you guys won't judge me too harshly, but I often post on UKCF at one minute past midnight, so that for a moment, just one shining moment, I can scroll down to the bottom of the screen and see myself as the days 'Top Poster'.
