Favourite Vitola?

Peria, Rayes and small Figurado are favorite with me. Being a fairly newby I find even finishing anything bigger, be it how tasty, a bit of a struggle.

hmm... after smoking both CCs and NCs for a few years I have come to this conclusion: I prefer small ring for CCs and large ring for NCs. The reasoning has to do with the filler and wrapper balance. For CCs that best leaf is the wrapper, shadow grown wrappers nicely aged for 3 years. With smaller ring cigars the wrapper comes more into play, bringing lots of complexity.

On the other hand with NCs, the wrappers are usually overly sweet, as they have been grown under the sun (only Fuente does shade-grown wrappers), which means that their sugar levels are higher. But... NC producers take really good care what goes into the filler, and use really good leafs, nicely aged and fermented, which I don't think is the case with CCs... Hence the good quality of filler offsets the sweetness of the wrapper, but you need a lot of leaf, hence larger ring cigars.

Now.. this might be completely in my head... but this is a conclusion I came to after smoking quite a few (hundreds...) of both CCs and NCs, and I consistently found that I preferred small and large ring respectively. I only found out about the wrappers after I was trying to figure out why I had such preference.

Interesting and informative! I too have noticed the sweetness of non cubans and had not realised this was the reason. It makes sense.

I'm nto a fan of the very large vitola as I never seem to have the time to finish them. I'm currently enjoying the robusto size but have to admit I'd love to try something a bit more exotic looking like a lancero.

Short and thick for me, anything over 50 ring gauge and 5 inchs long. Im a huge fan of Nubs, especially the 60gauge , i also like the 64 gauge Te-amos

Agree on the Nubs. Do the Short Churchills come close to replicating that kind of smoking experience?

Not really for me. The Nub habano 460 is one of my favourite cigars at the moment, though I'm waiting on a few samplers of some other large ring gauges

Something about the NUB, bar the hype, they just feel right in your hand. Especially if you've got a good drink in the other.

The maduros are being slated at the moment, not many people liking them from what i have read. Im still to try one, im not a fan of lighter wrappers, so the connecticuts dont do it for me, but those habanas, mmmmmmm
