  • Smokers or Collectors?

OK, you Guys are smokers with cigar collections you intend to smoke. But out there there must be people simply collect cigars for collection or maybe even investment sake. I'm asking, because I recently saw a box of pre-Embargo cigars being auctioned on ebay, not for the content which isn't allowed anyway, but for the packageing and intact seals.

Does this mean that some boxes can be like vintage wines and worth shit-loads? But if you un-cork a vintage wine all it becomes worth is the time it takes to get it down your neck. 'Though at least with wine you can kinda see that there is something in the bottle. Sealed boxes on the other hand might contain anything from the wrong cigars to the littered corpses of once-hungry cigar beetles.

Smokin' seems the better option to me!
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

30% of the purchase for smoking
50% aging to smoke probably after a decade
    20% or less for investment

Cigars are like women to me ! I buy them because I want to try them all!!
But Just Like woman they become an addiction and sometimes Ya make
A bad investment with Both. The differance is with cigars you get to ejoy burning them and with women they enjoy burning you. LOL

          Half for collection
          Half to enjoy

            Bit of both.

Ultimately they will all get smoked, but I do enjoy collecting them as well.

About the same as mike, half to smoke half to collect/age, though being new to them I'm smoking quite a lot to see what I like

I don't intentionally age many of my cigars. Sometimes the smokes at the bottom of my humidors become "out of sight, out of mind" for a year or two. Most of my cigars are probably smoked within six to eight months of purchase.

I've only been smoking this year so I'm still trying to build up a 'collection' to give me variation in what I smoke. I try to keep enough singles around that I don't have boxes of, to prevent me going through an entire box of what I do have!

So I guess I'm 100% smoker, just trying to eke out the smokes I can afford!

I used to just dive in and smoke everything I got but I'm managing to lay away a few boxes of rarer stuff like REs & LEs....I have a box JL Obus from France that I'm scared to touch...I know once I smoke one, the rest will be history...sounds mad I know

LOL... I know what you mean stevieboy, once you break the box..... it's not full, so a couple more and it is the same... not full! until it gets to... nearly empty and then you have to replace it as that was one of the boxes you intended to long term age!

Life is much easier with a large collection as you forget what you brought a couple of years ago. (completely forgot I had a box of epi No.1's from a year or so ago!) was in with a load of empty boxes at the back.....
