  • The D4 Curse

Most people here love the Partagas D4. I bought one of these a couple of years back and it was a hard to draw piece of shit. I purchased one of these with a 1001cc order because maybe that single I bought a while back was just a dud.

I've tried the SP no2 and that was super stuff. I let my D4 age for 2-3 months and I lit it up, last week I think; Another stonking piece of hard drawing shit. Was really dissappointed and peeved that one of my cubans was smoking poor, even more so that it was the D4 again!

Tightly packed, was lit fine, but the end was so plugged, nothing was coming through at all. Was sorely tempted to bin it (which ive never done ) but couldn't see myself throwing away money (Essentially). I plowed through, same shit, very unenjoyable all around. My pity smoke the day after was an Ashton Cabinet torpedo, and was miles better than the D4 I had.

Will I ever get a D4 which is good *ponders into the moonlight*

Test draw it BEFORE you light it. If it's not good, put it back in your humi for a month. Might be worthwhile investing in a Drawpoker from Tabak-Pietsch?

I've only had a couple myself, but I think it's worthwhile persevering as they are good.

Bugger, what a shame Mr B.

Like Dave says, stick with 'em as they are 'full of Cuba'

I haven't got a draw-poker my self, but I find a good jab up the jacksie with a thin bradawl is a cheap alternative. You don't get the same length (she cried) but it'll do a decent job (she sighed)

think you had a couple of bad experiences Mr B, a plugged cigar can f*#k up your day and personally gives me a headache as I refuse to let it beat me!

I've had four D4s this last week and they have all been wonderful and problem-free. I love em.

I've never had a bad one, the draw can be a tad tight on these but certainly not plugged in my experience. I was with SerieSteve at the Nationale in Havana and he found a lump of card in a D4!

Bad bit of luck MB , though its unusual for these to be plugged maybe damp or tightly wrapped, either leave out for awhile or try gently rolling between thumb and forefinger to loosen up, well worth perservering with these gems.

I have never heard of anyone having a bad D4 and I have had a lot of them over the years myself and found no problems. I hope it was just a bad box they came from.

When you think about the number of cigars that are made yearly across all brands, a bad batch is bound to slip through occasionally. It's just bad luck to be the one who ends up lighting one of them up.

                          SD4's are fantastic!

i use cocktail sticks to bore a little hole. Do you punch or but the end off? I punch but then but a bad drawing one and that helps too.
