RyJ!!! what's your opinions?

hello all,
i know this is probably a bit of a boring thread to start, but i was curious what the common consensus is here regarding the RyJ brand! my experience with RyJ is mainly with the short churchills, tubos no. 2 and mille fleurs, and to be honest, it's been mainly quite favourable! all have a regular place in my supply! however, i gather that, though they're one of the more common (& popular) brands , they're not entirely popular among 'aficionados'! i was wondering why (touch wood, i've not experienced a bad one yet)?

i've been tempted to buy a couple of single, exclusive 'editions', such as the 'duke', belicoso, hermoso no. 2 & exhibicion no. 4! what's your thoughts on these?

Hey Alex,

TBH I find the majority of the range to be quite bland EXCEPT the Churchill and Short Churchill, which IMO are exceptional smokes. I'd even go as far and say The RYJ Churchill with a few years of age on it is arguably the best in its class.

As for the Dukes, Never tried them. But I have heard alot of good things about them. Its my bday next month so i'm dropping hints about the house...

The Duke is an amazing smoke, really want to get a box of them! I smoked a Romeo cazadores the other day- reckoned to be the strongest cuban cigar currently in production - definately worth a try - i enjoyed more than i ever thought i would. Even considering a box in the long term....

thanks a lot! yeah, this is the kinda thing i've been reading, that most find the RyJ brand a bit bland! the churchill and short churchill get favourable reviews, and i've always enjoyed them! saying that, i've found that the tubos no. 2 with a bit of age on it can be pretty good too, and the mille fleurs, with a few weeks/ couple of months in the humidor can be a 'decent' everyday smoke! it's a bit of an odd one, how can a brand with such a reputation for 'blandness' (i'm getting tongue tied now! lol) still be so....... popular?

btw, i've been dropping the same hints about the duke! since they're falling on deaf ears, i reckon i'll probably just end up buying it myself! lol! cheers mate,

I think they are popular because there are many in the range that come in tubes and are stocked by a lot of regular stores, i'm sure i saw them at my local ASDA. Also the majority of the range is fairly mild, and thus non offensive no casual tokers

I'm a fan of RyJs generally, but with it having so much choice, it can be somewhat confusing.

I love the Churchill & Short Churchill - the 1998 Churchills were the best I've had.
However, for some reason, for many years I entirely overlooked the Exi 4. Must
have been all the hype about the short Churchill etc. Now though, the Exi 4, with some age is in my top 3 robustos

The Exi 4, especially in cabs, and preferably with some age is great. The Exi 3 is also pretty good. As has previously been mentioned, the Churchill and Short Churchill's are also very good.

I've not really investigated them much, but found the Short Churchill a bit too flowery or perfumed for my taste.

Dont forget the NC R&J's, some of these should not be overlooked and can be quite a nice smoke. Especially the habano reserve beliscoso which is a favourite of mine.

I bought several habano reserve, reserva real and edicion limitada this year while in florida. Haven't tried the the limiteds yet, they were pretty pricey at about 22 quid a pop, and too large for me yet. Picked them up at sosa cigars, what a great place to sit amd enjoy a cigar with the sosa family. I look forward to going again next year

RyJ's my favourite brand! I don't have much time or budget so I mostly have no.2 tubed petit coronas. Got a 25 box in cyprus in a newsagent for about what worked out as ?2 each, they obviously had been in the humi for ages as when I got them out they were covered in bloom. Smooth as silk and full of ryj's trademark aromatic floral taste , sadly I only have 6 left.

Make sure you try the 2007 LE Escudos, it's a jawdropper. If I had to sum it up with one word it'd be 'juicy', I'd be interested to know if anyone else gets this impression!

When the no 2's are gone I was about to pick up some of the NC variants and see how they compare.

Smoked a box of the Ex No4 while on holiday, and really enjoyed them.Hopefully will get to try a box of Dukes next month.

Tried the Short churchills earlier in the year and did not rate them at all.
