  • La Invicta...

Am I the only one who has had bad experience with these cheap Honduran sticks?

One of the first things I did after I joined the forum was order a few of the cheaper cigars which had been suggested in a number of discussions and are available in the UK, to find a daily smoke.

Some of the cigars I tried have been a real surprise (Chinchalero above all, at least for the vitolas I tried up to now) but both the Panatelas and Petit Coronas I bought from La Invicta have been a real disappointment: spongy cigars, with cigarette-like smell and going hot and harsh really easily .

I am not trying to be polemic with any BOTL's suggestions (which I always appreciate ) rather wondering if maybe I got some so-so sticks from this brand.

    Cheers!

      Hi Snooky,

thanks for the comments. I do have a few Cubans (RyJ Short Churchill, Hoyo Petit Robusto and Epi2) stashed away in my humidor, but I don't smoke these every day, hence the search for an affordable smoke. Also, I do believe in what our NSFW champion G-Man, writes in his profile (i.e. "price does not dictate taste") and some of the cheaper smokes certainly can be of good quality, not like the Cubans maybe, but they have a place in my humi.

Having said that, you certainly have a point; I noticed that some Cubans (Piedra & Fonseca to name two) are really cheap from some of the sites you mention. As soon as I have a little more storage space available....

You Get What You Pay For?

When senor GAS speaks, Knewbees listen.

Chichos, the so-called "G-Man" knows his non-cubans, that's for sure. And I suspect he might guide and advise you on your quest for, ahem, inexpensive cigars.

If you do a search, however, I believe there was a thread some time ago where members discussed some of the favorite n/cs. One of my favorite n/cs is the Davidoff, but it is hardly an inexpensive cigar.

        Good Luck and Good Nite!

Mr Toscano, I take some of the blame for holding Invictas in such regard. I've mentioned them a few times in the small cigar discussions, and have recommended them on a couple of occasions.

So... bad experiences. Well, it is true that they are cheap as chips in the grand scheme of things. Honduras origin cigars are not up in the higher echelons of stogies - not up there with Havanas - and I will be the first to admit that their construction sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.

So why do I see Invictas through such rose tinted glasses? Well, they bring back wonderful memories for me. One of my first 'cigar moments' was in central London, a few years back, and gentle music was being played in Covent Garden. It was there - over the admittedly mono-dimensional scent of an Invicta, that I knew I was going to stick with the hobby. I have burnt them sentimentally ever since.

Mr. Delta, thanks for the reply.

The one thing I didn't want to do with my message was be polemic of anyone's cigar taste, so I am happy I did not offend you.

I am a big sucker for fond memories so I can absolutely understand where you're coming from. Cheers!
