Now don't laugh... does anyone else taste pencil shavings in a cigar. I've been picking it up more and more often lately. I know it's a bit weird, stranger still that I've never eaten a pencil! I guess it's a memory of chewing on a pencil at school- the wood and graphite/lead. I hate to be one of those cigar w@@@@@rs pulling out ridiculous flavours but there you go. Anyone else?

Well I guess it's just me! I should have said in my original post that I don't find this an unpleasant taste at all. It does make me think that we cigar smokers often interpret the same characteristics in a cigar in different ways. I usually taste in quite broad strokes; sweet, tannic, peppery ect... It's unusual for me to have such a specific flavour come through. Anyhow, just wanted to see if I was alone... clearly I am.

I’ve never specifically noticed pencil shavings but I get what you mean because I sometimes have tastes that are related to the general point you are making. HU Connie A (one of my favourite cigars I should add) often reminds me of very sweet wood/sawdust which I obviously have never actually tasted, nor do I know if such a thing even exists actually. I’ve described cigars as forest floor in my notes, I’ve never licked a forest floor. Smells and tastes are very much linked and that must partly be where these odd flavours come from.
