Cracked wrapper

I was looking threw my humidor today and have noticed that some of the sticks that are on the bottom the wrappers are cracking where it is touching the wood! The humidity and temp have all been in the right range, is this where the wood has been taking the moisture from the cigar?

That sounds feasible, perhaps place a piece of acetate paper from an old cigar box underneath them.

Cracked feet are always caused by excess moisture so reduce your humidity... Even if it looks fine, it's too high.... if you see what I mean.

The cigar most prone to cracks always seems to be petit robusto. I've had more hassle with them than any other size

Okay, I was considering reducing the rh to 69%, I have 72% in there atm and it sits bang on that +\- 1%

Honestly, dont fret at 65%. If you dont have temperature control, this will fluctuate with daily/seasonal temperature changes. Boveda help, but they are not as fast as temperature changes. Here's them doing a great job these days!

Some folk store long term at 62% but that makes me twitch... [emoji4]

Sorry this isn?t my long term storage, this is what I go in to for my daily smokes, I use a Tupperdor for my long term storage

I find anything over 70 to be way too wet and to need relights. Stick between 62 and 67 and you'll be fine

I would definitely keep it under 70. Anything over and you risk getting mould.

I?ve had a few cracked feet, I think due to changes in temperature and humidity in shipping. I?ve never had a problem with the way they smoke though, once you get past the first few mm the burn is fine.

I find cracking occurs when there is a too rapid change in humidity.
If you grow tomatoes you'll understand that rapid changes in moisture are what splits the skins.
Random point I know but everyone cracks under constant rapid change.

Agreed, & happy down to 63% for longer term ageing.

Keep your Humidor in the most temperature stable part of the house, this helps alot. I find cigars love to 'burst' when the get taken out into the wide world when there ready for a smoking (Hot to cold and damp = Crack). Even when you have everything nailed on correct, it still happens now and again. Its just the one you smoke first out the box ;-)
