Stock age in UK Shops

Morning,

I think this might be a bit of a how long's a piece of string question, but having picked up a number of a very young boxes in Cuba which I will be sitting on for a while to give some age.

If I was to buy cigars from our sponsor or other UK shop is there a minimum age you'd assume they already had on them from the exporting process etc.?


Also as far as NC's when there is no date, do these not need aging in the same way or is it just a guessing game?

You would have to ask the shop, you can still buy very young cigars in UK shops. Best bet to pick up some aged ones is get access to the buy/sell forum on here or checkout some of the facebook groups.

NC don't usually suffer from being too young in my experience.
Not sure why CC have got into a position of needing aging by the consumer. Maybe Cuba were trying to increase income by selling cigars before the tobacco was fully fermented and now they only have young tobacco stocks left.???

NCs are usually sold pre aged and ready to go but im no expert on those.

I wouldn’t necessarily avoid young Cuban cigars all together. CC are generally much more approachable young than they used to be and although you may well prefer aged Cubans that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy them at all.

This is very true. I actually prefer young CCs.... As long as they're not too 'wet'. They do need time to dry out

Not fussed about waiting 5 years plus to smoke, but fmthe finding out is the best part of this hobby

Absolutely agree with this. It's very easy for people to say you need to age your CC to get the best out of them but i don't agree with that at all.. some cigars smoke fantastically well fresh and right out of the box. Yes I will say that the right CC will age very well but it's very dependant on the box , blend ect ect.
id say if they are smoking well for you right now get them smoked ...

NC Cigars I have read somewhere that they use ageded tobacco 5yrs plus just my 2C worth

Depends on the nc. Its not one company like habanos. Each nc company (and there are hundreds of them), will work a different way.

As a guide, fresh stock in the UK & Europe is likely to be only6months old.

But a vintage cigar is something else...my best ever CC was from about 1960 and it was smoooooth and wonderful. I cant now recall what it was and it doesnt matter anyway. Came from Cgars eight years back, cost me a fortune but worth every penny. I think all the nicotene had gone but none of the taste. A joy, a pure joy.
