Ask the neighbours if your smoking and showering actually bothers them, do this in front of your wife problem solved.
And yes smoking in 'a shed' is one stage off nipping out for a quick ham shank, not exactly the way to enjoy your cigars.

The problem is if they say yes then I'd be an arse to continue. Except the showering which is kinda mandatory. They're actually quite cool, but if they asked me if their piano playing annoyed me I'd say yes, then we'd neither of us be allowed to have any fun.

I was just venting tbh - the problem is my, otherwise superb, wife.

Seriously, I must have a jolly decent wife. Not only does she enjoy the aroma of cigars she also always tastes them and has a smoke. Actually, my kids (in their mid to late 20s now) also enjoy the activity! They don't smoke themselves but a good cigar is something they appreciate...that and fine whiskey, rum and brandy. Brung up right, you might say.

Anyway, my point...if my wife said I had to stand in the garden I'd be livid and just say no. And if she complained on behalf of my neighbours who felt they had to shut the window, then yes, I might think I've got the wrong wife.

My wife is excellent generally, except that she seems to care oh so much about what the neighbours think - can't have the music too loud, can't take the bins out or wash the car without a shirt on, can't shower late or smoke etc etc. Quite odd.

Well its time for a frank discussion. "you care too much about them. Maybe I care too little about them. How about we compromise...I won't smoke my cigars outside between the hours of 2330 and 0500. I'll smoke em inside during that period"

So, should I leave her?
No, simply take a drill and a handful of screws and secure their windows shut for them.... care in the community

2 very different approaches, potentially resulting in the same end! I care plenty about my neighbours, when I say 'music too loud' I mean like I still can't really hear it and she's turning it down. And the naked thing? I mean I have a half decent rig - they should be honoured!

Let us know how it goes. I fear we have been less than helpful

Good luck.... in all seriousness a compromise including a dose of honesty and candour seems appropriate

Your making a rod for your own back tbh. Remember you've promised yourself to this woman for life.

You're not doing anything wrong...if they don't like it then solution is simple

They should close there window...where does it end

You want to do a BBQ but the smell and smoke affects them. Does that mean you can't do a BBQ in your own garden??

So I take it geoffbot the next “herf” is at your place then?

Seriously, life is short enough as it is, to spend your time worrying about the neighbours - personally, if a neighbour has the front and complained about me smoking my cigars in my garden - I would shake their hand thanking them for bringing it to my attention, and ask them when they are moving as it will be sad to see them go....

Haha! The neighbours are cool tbf - it's the wife! Who actually apologised yesterday and said she was stressed with getting made redundant (understandable) etc.

That's reason enough to be stressed!
