I've been sat here revelling in the scent of cigars after unpacking a recent purchase. I'm in an air conditioned box of an office so was amazed I could still smell them ten mins on from putting them away. Then I realised the smell was all over my hands... and hopefully now all over my keyboard... oh for the days when I could have sparked one up here at my desk!

Lovely! My inner nerd wants to know what has put the small on me the strongest... box or leaf... but who cares its divine!

I don't care which, but that gorgeous aroma that fills the senses when you open up a humidor that hasn't been accessed for a while, or you're inspecting your stash and come across forgotten sticks of gorgeousness - it's pure visual and aromatic pleasure which wraps it's arms around you, sending you to another place, and for a brief moment everything in life is perfect again

I smoke in my winter retreat (the front porch pending the planned herf hut) and watch Netflix on my lap top. There have been several times when I have later opened the lap top, say at a meeting, and got a whiff of cigar smoke. It's OK, but a bit stale and I always feel the need to explain. The lingering aroma in the porch is nicer.

I don't think I could ever smoke in a suit and have the smell following me all day; there will be a point when it will no longer be perceived as 'the aroma of affluence' and just be an annoying pong! I once worked for a guy who was a bit if a tyrant; everyone knew when he was in the office from the cigar smell (in days when you could smoke indoors), but I swear he had some means of passing the smoke through the aircon system to keep people on their toes when he wasn't there!

I was a member of the Black Wolf Club for a while.... and whenever I jumped in a cab in St James the driver always said 'blimey cigar smoke... lovely smell' and in the back of my mind I was already cursing the whiff of stale smoke on overcoat and suit.

i'm not a fan of acrid smelling of stale smoke... although sometimes it can be quite cedary and perfumed and it just hits all of the right nostalgic buttons!

i think there are a few occasional UKCF'ers who have been members. I was introduced originally by the sadly departed Nic Wing. We corresponded about the Cigar Smokers e-journal he published and had featured an article on them. I kick about in Mayfair from time to time so he made an intro for me.

they are a welcoming bunch - quite eclectic as you might expect. There is the usual smattering of St James/ Mayfair suits and bohemian trustafarians as well as a bunch of folk who occasionally work in town, and just about one of everything else. They do tastings with a really good cross section of sticks, usually paired with an interesting drop of booze presented by someone who has some degree of insight or authority on the why and the what of it all.

I found myself not being in Mayfair as much as I was, hence I let my membership lapse but would have otherwise happily remained a member and attend the tastings & dinners.
