Switched from 69% to 65% now RH is 55%!

I decided to to switch my Boveda?s a few months ago from 69s, which normally held the RH around 70 to 65s.

I checked the humidor today, first time in a month or so as I?ve not been smoking and RH has dropped to 55%. They feel ok when you give the foot a little squeeze, wrapper feels a bit dry though. Do you think it?s done any damage?

Are the bovedas drying up? Weird. Bring them back up slowly.

Maybe the hygrometer isn't so accurate below 70%. That's probably where they are designed to operate. You might not actually be at 55%.

Smell fine, I’ll swap the hygro with the one in my tub. Good point about the accuracy below a certain threshold.

Entering cigar smoking season for me so I’ll let you know how I get on!

That's interesting, I've just had to take the Bovedas out of a wooden humidor that had shot up to 72%. Yes I know they absorb moisture but these two aren't.

I have found that the lower the Boveda RH you use in a wooden humidor, the larger the RH "loss" is. I suspect that the lower the RH, the worse the seal is.

Yes, typical 40 cigar desktop type.

I put an extra Boveda in the humidor when I found it had dropped so much, I suspect one was asking a bit much.

These are the readings before I swapped the hygro's round.

The readings below are after I swapped them round. I think the readings show that its not a hygro issue.

Humidor is now holding at 61% with two 65's in it. I'm going to smoke one later to see what they're like, but what are peoples opinions about long term storage at 60% RH?

I think that was the problem, I only had one 65% 60g pack for roughly 32 cigars. When I was using 69% packs I only had one and it seemed hold up quite well so I assumed the 65% would as well. That and the fact that I didn't check the humidor as often as I should've over the winter, just glad I found it when I did as its the humidor with all my expensive cigars in.
