I had an interesting exchange in the Post Office when I posted thedame007's custom rolls yesterday. The attractive young lady asked, 'For the purpose of security, what's in the package please?
'Cigars'
'Oh, what sort?'
'Cuban custom rolls'
'And the value?'
'Fifty pounds' (trying to avoid increased charges)
'Really, they're about ?20-30 each'
'Not in Cuba they're not'
'I know but they are over here. Special Delivery would cover the full value'
Thinks a moment
'But tobacco isn't insured under Special Delivery'
Now you know!

Interesting. As always the devil is in the detail. Clerk would have sufficed.

She's been to Cuba, we had quite a nice chat as there was no queue.

I didn't know tobacco wasn't officially covered by SD but I never believed they would pay out so never asked for insurance. I never say cigars Either, just candles.

And if they ever ask how many, presumably the answer would be four!

Cigars are covered... When I did a box split a year to two ago...they got damage...reported it to the royal mail and gave me my money back

Goes to show they often don't know what they're talking about. I had a counter clerk refuse a box of cigars once because the contents were flammable!

It adds flavour Banos, the fat old bird was on the next position. It could just as easily have been a grumpy Chinese guy. Although he works in my local post office. This was in the Croydon office where I very rarely go.

I gotvcigars are flammable too, what like the wrapping & jiffybag? Then tried to explain the difference between flammable & combustible, didn't go well.

But then you declared them as candles which are just as “flammable” as cigars

Yes, and I have had more than one question candles being flammable but they took them in the end & if xrayed, they should look alike enough (when sending abroad ect). And I always worry saying cigars, a member of staff might take a fancy.

You’d be hard pressed to find something that’s not “flammable” using that as a basis, I wonder many people have not been able to post books due to their “flammable” nature.
