Is Facebook even worth it? I recently changed jobs and had to set one up to manage stuff at work..... Don't like the whole Facebook thing at all. Not one bit.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14

The world is full of decent people. This forum is proof that the internet offers a great place for likeminded folk to gather irrespective of location, mobility, etc often free from 'social' pressures that might inhibit people from gathering in the real world.
now, facebook clearly offers much the same. BUT it actively promotes self promotion.... So its an open meeting place for the self-obsessed and crack pot brigade.... Queue a long line of; flat-earthers, anti-vaxers, trump supporters, supporters of any extreme cause (think Gammon...! and the utter turd that is Tommy Robinson and his vile gang).... As well as those who cant eat anything without sharing a picture, cant go anywhere without posting a picture of themselves obscuring the thing they are showing off about seeing, or take a run/bike ride without making it known to the world....!!!
i realise there are a number of chunks of irony in there as we endlessly share pics of cigars we are buying/smoking.... But we are choosing to share in a specific forum with people that like that stuff, rather than broadcasting on FB to old school pals, former lovers, work colleagues and dear old aunty jeanie....
that said some of the FB groups are exceptional, and continue to show that the world is full of generous and decent folk. A stonkingly good example is the one mentioned above and run by RobBooth - it is a genuine joy to be a part of and he is a true BOTL and all round good egg.
BUT if you dont look after your privacy settings, if you dont look at who you are sharing what with, and you dont check who is posting what before you like and/or share, expect to be surrounded by numbskulls, bigots and videos/pics of cats quite quickly.Last edited by Emaresee; 15-01-2019, 11:33 AM."Dear heart, you're talking to a man- a real man- who drinks straight Tequilla, with lime and salt on the rim, and smokes cigars" (J Zavala)

Excellently put Matt and I have to agree.
I closed my original account some time back as I found no use in it, I don’t care to share endless photos of myself and what I’m doing/eating nor do I generally want to see those of others.
It is however great (or terribly dangerous depending how you look at it) for getting groups of likeminded individuals together and although it doesn’t generally have the same level of community as this fine forum it is great for trying new cigars through box splits or finding aged and rare stuff.
I’ve already bought a box of Punch DC (that i split with thedame007) with a box date the same as my son’s birthday, for that reason in itself I think it’s already been extremely worthwhile.
