  • Scuba humidity distribution.

    Hey guys

So recently I bought a few humidity and temperature sensor so I could keep and eye on the levels without opening my container's etc.

In my 45 Lt scuba which is full of cigars and has about 5 65% bovedas packs in there I found that small areas around the bottom the humidity is only 60% but the toward the top is 65. Would you worry or just rotate the boxes more in thescuba .

Whereabouts are the Bovedas, at the top or spread out?

You could always add a fan to circulate the air. Xikar make one, although its about ?40. Bit of a rip for a fan with a timer.

They are spread out some on the sides and the middle between boxes and top.

Yea but ?40 seemed excessive. Was thinking about putting some computer fans in the lid was looking how to make it battery operated with a small relay.

So it is just a case of moisture rising and settling at the top then.

A Computer fan is probably the best option. I know one of the Humidor Gurus on another forum makes fans like that across the pond for his builds. Should be relatively simple and cheap with some basic electronics.

You've got me thinking now, might have a go at putting one in mine.

That sounds like a thread of its own

If you're gonna spend 40 quid on a bloody fan you might as well buy a ton more bovedas no?

I'm guessing it's more about circulation.

Yea been adding a few more packs in there just wanted to see everyone thoughts and if they've come across this issue before in larger units etc

My fridge unit is the opposite; top few shelves are 65, middle 67, and the one right at the bottom sits at 69, and this is with a lot of the extra large 65 boveda in there. It hasn't been an issue, and I have stopped stressing over it. I have arrange the fridge so the NC boxes/singles i have are on the bottom as I have heard they prefer a higher RH , then in the lower middle selves i keep my duplicate boxes for ageing, and the top one's for the boxes i smoke now.

I have had no issues, and i just try not to over think things now
Only the impossible is worth the effort.

I may have mentioned before that I have three cubes in a stack and the humidity goes up 1% as they each go up. Like you I don't stress about it, life's too short.

Cheers guys...wasn't stressing but wasn't happy that the bottom.of the boxes were sitting at 60/62 as it is a tad dry for me.
.on the plus I have read it's a good range to age with.
