Interesting reading, Mr Bulgarin. I have often have the same almost dazzled look from my contemporaries, as I draw on a cigar. Are you not addicted? Or -- you wanna mind, mate, you're going to get hooked.
I have a couple of points here, which are probably little related to the continuity of the thread (a forte of mine). Firstly, I would suggest that there are some - just some - ciggy smokers who are interested in the very, very few brands left that fulfil the 'premium' market. Sobranie is a firm example. These smokers view such items with such esteem as I view a nice Monty.
Second, I think there is a fine line between addiction and hobby. It is a very fine line. For instance, when studying, I keep a firm stock of sticks, and dip in and out of them during the week. Sometimes I have a few days off. This is when I can get into my hobby, as I am in full control of my digs there - and can enjoy a stick.
When not at uni, I don't feel a craving for a stick. I don't rush into the nearest Spar and blaze the closest Hamlet at hand -- but I indeed miss the fun of it all. The little stock on my shelf; the smell; the trip to the tobacconists. It's something I can do without, but not something I can leave.
