• Which Cut Above The Rest Are You

When I started smoking cigars, I always used the straight guillotine type of cutter.....it was easy to use, but you did have to be careful, keep them sharp and be careful cutting too much off the cap. But recently I have discovered and found for many cigars I prefer to use a punch.

My most recent discovery was enjoying the draw you get with a V cut or cats eye....The straight cut I probably use the least at the moment. This question may be already covered within the forum, but I couldn?t find it...What are the general opinions, consensus or etiquette which cut to use on your cigars?

It all depends on my mood. Right now I'm in a straight cut phase again.

It depends on the RG mainly. For larger cigars I usually use a V cut. For smaller RG, a straight cut. Belicosos/torpedos tend to get the 'Cuban' cut. Rarely use a punch.

I almost always use a straight cut, occasionally a punch that’s on a lighter I use but only if I’ve forgot to carry a cutter with me somewhere.

I’ve never tried a V cut but I need to, I might order one now actually before I forget.

Generally use a Colibri V cut but as has been said, on smaller RG sticks a guillotine is the best option.

V or straight cut for me at the moment.

I dropped my Xikar punch, denting the cutting edge, so I?ll be looking to get a Credo at some point to give the various sizes a try.

                Cut Up!

Depends on the stick, I suppose...and your mood.

Having said that, my first choice is a sharp punch, then it’s a toss-up between a guillotine (Cuban Crafter*) and the Colibra V-Cutter.

*Cuban Crafter is idiot proof - includes a back stop so you can’t over cut your stick.

For me the punch or straight cut is preferred....I bought a cheap colibri v cutter which is quite good.

I find sometimes the punch on large rg I get a build up of tar that spoils the taste...but doesn't happen all the time

All over the punch at the moment.

Depends on the cigar - if I suspect the draw may be a little loose I start with a punch, but general go-to is a straight cut.

I have a v-cutter, but its the one I use least.

Straight cut. Would consider a v cutter to experience the difference.

Sounds like you need a bigger punch, amigo.

Or try using the Figure-Eight punch pattern...or even the Clover pattern, as once demonstrated by a formerly active member known as Se?or cj121.
