Hey guys, first post.

Just wondering what the best cigar are for beginners?

Punch Petit Coronation Tubos
Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto
Guantanamera Cristales

Are these 3 good for a newbie? Saw these recommendations on CGars. I've just been smoking dry cured cheap La Paz every now and then.


Also, is it ok to season Cedarwood with Humidification Solution with anti mould additive? Or does it have to be distilled water only?

Hiya fella, usual protocol is to introduce in the newbie section but whilst you're here Guanos are usually regarded as sh*te. The other two are good starters though. And distilled water is cheaper.

The Hoyo de Monterrey is a nice, creamy, mild stick that you would likely enjoy. Others that are popular with beginners (I still consider myself one!) include Trinidad Reyes, Por Larra?aga Petit Corona, San Cristobal El Principe and the Montecristo 'Open' line.

As for seasoning, skip the water and get yourself a Boveda seasoning pack. Throw it in and in a week - two weeks, you can swap the seasoning pack out for a regular 65% (or whatever your RH preference is) pack, wait for the relative humidity to stabilise and put your new sticks in!

I wouldn't just start with Punch since I believe that they are not the perfect smoke for a beginner. I would go with some Hoyos, the Reyes or the El Principe as [MENTION=13468190]K444HEP[/MENTION] suggested. IMO the PLPC needs time down. Another good cigar to start out is the H Upmann Half Corona which is a short smoke that is very accessible.

I’ve had a few Guantanamera cigars before and found them to be a decent, economical stick.

One man’s shit is another man’s economical smoke, I guess. That’s what I think anyways.

I would have said the same until recently Mike, but the 2017 Coronations I’ve smoked have been really impressive and would work as a beginner smoke IMO. Lots of cream and savoury spice (not pepper), I couldn’t believe how good they were for such a young and relatively cheap smoke. But then again maybe I just dropped on a really good batch.

Other than that I’d echo the thoughts of others. Reyes, Hoyo Petit Robusto, H Upmann Half Corona and El Principe are all solid smokes.

As others have said RE: seasoning just get some 84% Boveda seasoning packs and let them do their magic for 2 weeks.

Its each to their own in finding their feet with cigars, I've been smoking 'properly' for about 18 months now and would recommend the sticks below to try.

- Hoyo Epi 2
- Hoyo Short Robusto
- El Rey Del Mundo choix supreme
- H. Upmann Mag 46
- H.Upmann No 2
- Montecristo Petit No.2
- Montecristo Petit Edmundo
- Punch Punch
- Bolivar Belicossos Finos - might want to try a few others first before this as I did find it a fuller cigar than the others on the list

Also I found I was pout off from the 'stronger' brands such as Partagas, Bolivar and Ramone Allones but just test the water and try what you fancy.

Just my personal thing but I always make sure i've got some water and something sweet on hand just incase the cigar has a bit of a nicotine hit and puts me on my ass!

Failing all of that just try what you fancy - I started off by picking the sticks with bands I liked the look of! Also worth going to a shop if you can as speaking to a decent cigar sales person should be able to help you and direct you well.

Final tip, I keep a little cigar journal of what I smoke, when and where it was, what I was doing, and drinking so I have a reference for future and also helps see if your palate develops.

RG perlas or Por Larranaga panatelas are nice mild to medium cigars worth trying buddy
