  • Letting a cigar acclimatise? Yes? No?

    Hey all,

I was told a long time ago that when you want to smoke a stick from your collection, you should take it out the humidor and let acclimatise itself to the environment. I have generally let them sit for an hour before smoking because of this.

However I was thinking 'why do I have to wait to smoke it?' as he never gave me any reason why I should do this. I just took his word for it...

So was he talking out of his ass or does the science back this theory up?

I?ve never done that before smoking. I let new additions acclimatise to my humidor when I newly receive them though.

I did read something similar on a website a few years ago. I usually do take the cigar I intend to smoke about an hour before and let it sit on top of the humidor.

I just take them out of my humidor or fridge and smoke them. I do sometimes dry box cigars for a few days though.

A lot of people dry box their cigars as gojira mentioned. I've been meaning to do this for yonks but find myself never quite sure if I will smoke them or not and not wanting to dehumidify them if I don't!

I agree. I never really know what I?m going to smoke until I open my humidor or fridge. But I have a few boxes of sticks that have fireproof wrappers and I dry box those for a few days and am thus forced to smoke those when I do.

I've tried dry boxing but never thought it made any difference. I've tried soft lighting and romantic music to put them at ease as well but they still taste the same. You know me, I'll smoke one straight out of the newly delivered box so what do I know?

the old advice of lick it at one end, light it at t'other seems to be fairly simple enuff! That said... I do worry, you have collected more than you smoke so perhaps you arent so good at this smoking lark!!
