Given its the holiday season, many people will look to do the smart thing and buy abroad or in duty free... So, heres a tip for the newbies that may be worth thinking of. Most reputable merchants will shrink wrap/ clingfilm box purchases for you at a minimum, others will pack in ziplock bags or both!
But if you are just happening upon little tobbacconists etc around and about in far flung places, they may not be so accomodating. So pop a few large zip lock bags in your luggage... Or find your resort supermarket for a roll of cling film....
I confess that clingfilming boxes and stuffing them in your hold luggage will make you feel a little like Pablo Escobar, but it will minimise the moisture loss to your holiday box purchases! And a zip lock will keep singles happy until you can get them home to your humi havens!!!
happy travels!
Ha ha! I never travel without zip lock bags and one or two bovedas.
another hint here for the newbs.... you will be tempted to tinker and admire your sticks in your humi, which will throw your hygro readings waaaaay off. Anyway, once you are happy to let the little beauties rest in peace dont forget to give them an occasional inspection, and a move around.... i.e. those that have been pressed up against the humi walls, move to the middle, and vice versa.
Last evening I gained a huge amount of cigar well being by sorting my collection into common marca 'lock n lock' boxes ... hugely nerdy but it gave me an opportunity to reacquaint myself with my stock, and to inspect these valuable sticks.
Once your collection has outgrown your second humi (as we all buy a small one, then a large one, and then figure out how hooked you are) a general health check and rotation of your stock q few times a year should see you sorted!

The best advantage of the perfect Draw, it's like insurance, since I have had it I haven't had to use it myself; although my friend Zowie tested it out on a particularly tight Havana I had given him. Worked well & he was able to enjoy another wise unsmokable stick.
Another use of the PerfecDraw, is it works great as a perfect holder for those cigars you enjoy so much you want to “nub” them.....I know phillistine in the eyes of a connoisseur, but sometimes you just have to do it....

Like licking out the cake mixture bowl. Sure it’s not cool, nor is it very sophisticated, and I imagine Mary B would give you a long cold stare.
I've learned to pinch the nub when stogies get down that far. Really doesn't look very sophisticated but might get you a few puffs more when there are no tools handy.
I call it the 'nub pinch'.
I'll take a photo next time.

And I forgot to mention cigars rolled in the shape of pipes!
i have a man o war in the humi that tapers right off into a pipe shape at the head, still deciding how to cut the bugger, off straight cut me thinks...
