glad you got sorted mate. Pretty poor service if you got sent these in this state. Had the seal been broken? as 1001 claim this is done to give the cigars a final check before they are mailed out.

heard some stories about bad cigars from 2000-2001 but never as bad as this.

Yea the seals were broken. The mold wasn't overly noticeable from a quick glance. I have heard of bad cigars from those years, which I was expecting, poor construction, draw problems etc. But I wasn't quite expecting mold

I see the cigars were replaced, so this is probably of no more than accademic interest.

It is difficult to tell for certain from those photos, certainly I've never seen such spotty leaves, but they do appear to me at least, to be blemishes in the leaf itself rather than something growing on the leaf.

If so, they are what is known as "frog eyes" - which do no more harm (apparently) than affecting the visual appearence.
