  • Cutting a torpedo/no 2 cigar

    Morning all,

possibly a bit if a stupid question here.

i was going to have a p2 or a Belicosos Finos today maybe and have seen recently a number of people using a v cut on these kind of sticks, now do you straight up c cut it or do you use a straight cutter to take the end off first to create a flat surface to then v cut on to?

I ask as I can?t visualise straight up v cutting a pointed end of a cigar without ruining it.

any advice or tip much appreciated!

    have a smokey Sunday

You can directly take your v cutter to them. Just make sure that your aim is good.

Personally I prefer a straight cutter to cut those.

You should be able to just put your cigar in the v cutter and snip away.

Another cut which is slightly different and helps with a good draw is angle your straight cutter. Works well

Yep, that's the cut I use.

          Get to the point.

The nice thing about using a good V-cutter on just about any stick is the additional surface area it provides, thus, a better draw.

Now, regarding the pointy pyramid, some folks achieve the same results with a guillotine cutter by cutting the head at a angle.

That’s what some of us Coros do, anywayz.

UPDATE: I just noticed that Se?or shamz beat me to a draw regarding angle-cut pyramids. Oh, well...

mean I have to smoke 3 cigars now one straight cut, one v and one straight but angled...... this is going to be tough..... but would be good to try all 3 to see which is preferred for me with a torpedo

I challenge this bit 'thus better draw' as I doubt the size of the cut if it's of reasonable size restricts the draw. It's the bunched, pressed leaves. Or more precisely the very narrow air passages and their higgledy-piggledy nature (technical term )
In fact I would expect a straight cut, due to its wider circumference and diameter actually includes more of these air channels. And so increases the likelihood of a better draw.

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

I only have this one, got it on my mini moon to Barcelona last Oct and picked up a selection of things to try - been waiting for the time to smoke it and a laxy sunday afternoon with time on my hands seemed the right time.

Its a very nice stick, one of the best constructed Cubans i've had to date, only one small touch up. Flavours wise its been tasty, with those darker flavours, earthiness with some chocolate and coffee in there and certainly full on with flavour as well - was a bit worried it'd be too strong for me but im just about half way through and not feeling like I've taken some hits or light headed.

Will certainly be getting a few more of these to lay down for a while and will look at some other Bolivars as well, I've heard the Royal Corona is a good stick.

                          Fair point, muchacho.

I guess it depends on where you start the angle cut. I submit that an angle cut placed at the same place as a straight cut may help keep the cap from unwrapping better than a straight cut while maintaining the same draw capabilities. Because of this attribute, I further submit that you can place an angle cut higher on the pointy headed stick than a straight cut, thus more surface area and better draw. But I guess only science can tell fer sure.

As for me, I stay away from these pointy headed higgledly piggledly sticks...they’ll put your eye out!
