  • Are cigar wrappers always rolled anti clockwise?

I destroyed the cap the other day and the wrapper began to unwind a bit. No problem. Moisten the cap a little and roll the cigar clockwise. Usually does the trick.

This got me wondering. Are the wrappers always applied counter clockwise? Is this on purpose?

    Any experience otherwise?

Does it depend which hemisphere they were rolled in?

Maybe it depends on whether the roller is right or left handed?

I heard a story once about an aussie who went to slovenia. Taught a load of locals how to play cricket. He was left handed and the village had never watched anyone else play... so even though many were right handed, the whole village team batted left.

Maybe all rollers roll anti clockwise because thats how they were taught. Or maybe its to make them look uniform in the box...

This is the right answer (I think) ... not sure which way is CW and CCW as it depends on how you look at the cigar .

if you look at a box of cigars there is usually 4 or 5 cigars with the opposite spiral from the other 20 in the box ... I always assumed that the 4 or 5 were left handed rollers and the other 20 were right handed rollers .

Apparently, if you have a cigar rolled by a leftie, it feels like someone else is smoking it.

Each wrapper is made from half of a leaf, the right side or the left side. The main (centre) stem will already have been removed in the despalillo (stripping room).
The roller trims smaller veins from the leaf.
The underside of the leaf is always towards the inside of the cigar, touching the binder, as it is the side with any veins remaining.
Also, the tip of the leaf is always at the foot of the cigar, or should be.
Thus there will be right-handed and left-handed cigars, i.e. some cigar wrappers will be clockwise, some will be rolled anti-clockwise, depending on which side of the leaf the wrapper was taken from.
Rollers will roll with either hand, depending on the direction of the half-leaf they're working with, that is, if it curves to the right or curves to the left.

Read this just yesterday - time to watch some better roller vids

There are also folks on other forums talking about having to rotate the correct way while lighting! Which sounds

While others decide which hand to light with depending on the direction of the roll! Muy Loco, No?

Haha! Why not. Nothing else to do around this place.

Besides, thread-killer Ryan pretty much explained the deal behind CW and CCW wrapper leafs.

                            ?nuf said, I suppose.
