Where to go for lunch and cigar in London (British Museum or St. James area)

Hi All

Hubby and I are down in London for an event in a couple of weeks (Wednesday). Can anyone suggest somewhere nice for lunch where hubby would be able to indulge his love of cigars afterwards??

Anywhere with a terrace or outdoor area? Or a decent restaurant next to a cigar shop?

The Lanesborough could be a good shout. Quite close to the St James area (it's on Hyde Park corner by Wellington Arch). A very nice hotel with a great restaurant and an excellent and highly regarded smoking 'garden'/terrace.

This place is very near the British Museum in Bloomsbury and I found it from the H&F COSA (Comfortable Outdoor Smoking Area) Guide.

One of our number (Pantomime Horse) recently checked it out as a possible venue for our 1st Anniversary Herf and he declared it "not bad".

Failing that, if you don't mind going a little further, the area outsdie the American Bar at the Stafford Hotel (Opposite JJ Fox in St James's street) is superb if a little pricey, but reputed to do the best Burger in town, also extremely Cigar freindly and really nice staff.

If you pop into JJ Fox or Davidoff (as you must if you are in town) they will point you in the right direction.

Another suggestion is Franco's in Jermyn Street opposite Davidoff, where you can sit outside and lunch with a cigar.

I agree with the Wingster if cash isnt an issue head to The Stafford for a nice smoke and Im sure the food is excellent as everything in that place seems to be top draw

that pub in Bloomsbury I wasnt overly impressed with, its a bit of a city boys hang out but on a nice cobbled street, no idea what the food situation is.

An area worth checking out is down on the South Bank there are a fair amout of places with nice outside areas and food, if you go to Embankment station just cross over the bridge and your there with lots of options.

Thanks everyone. We've sorted lunchtime (alas no smoking but it's Gordon Ramsay so I'm happy!), but do have some hours to kill in the evening so we will seek out those bars. I'll make a list and let hubby choose which one he wants to try.

No - it's Claridges. Hubby is taking me to all the expensive places whilst I'm pregnant as it reduced the total bill by two-thirds. Usually my wine bill is sky high but at the moment I'm sticking to water. I am a cheap date at the moment!

Hey Riannon, while you are at the restaurant make sure you go into the hotel and look for the Churchill pictures. There are some great pictures in reception as he had some links to the Hotel.

When he left office as Prime Minister he had nowhere to live and the manager of Claridges (who he knew) offered him a suite which he stayed in for 6 months.
During the war many displaced heads of state stayed in London including the head of state of Yugoslavia who was staying at Claridges with his wife who was heavily pregnant with their first child. He was extremely concerned because his wife was very near due and their heir was not going to be born in Yugoslavia. So they brought a shovel of Yugoslavian soil which was put under the bed and Winston Churchill declared that the room was part of Yugoslavia for the period of her confinement so that the child was actually born ?in Yugoslavia?
I got this stuff for the Cigar Walk but spiked it as we don't go by Claridges. Have a great lunch!

Nice to know you are thinking on cigars for your London Trip.
St James St is a perfect place, opposite Davidoff Shop you have Francos restaurant which has some great tables outside and you can enjoy a good cigar while eating your delicious lunch.
Also in Lanesborough Hotes is a great Cigar Lounge with an spectacular varity of Vintage and Unique cigars..
Notice they are even selling Behike Cigars from box N0.52 (the price for a single piece is 1500.00 Sterlines)
Millenium Hotel in Sloane St has a terrace on the back, quite close to Harrods..they serve lunch outside and you can smoke for as long as you like without been disturbed.
