• Cigar length and smoking times

I know it all depends on the individuals...but just curious at what is everyone's limits.

I've smoked Churchill and Toro last year and they just seem too big for me...I think I can manage about 90 pushing it to 1hr45min before Ive had to much...however this is when smoking at home... my recently herf over Xmas felt completely different and Maybe able to handle a longer cigar...but really have no idea untill I try it one day.

I always assumed the Churchill is longest from regular production...but i recently ordered some hoyo DC and they are huge but didn't realise they are bigger than a churchill...it was only when chatting to moteyi today and he mentioned the DC are longer than the Churchill....now I have 5 in the humi I'll have to find some good time to smoke these bad boys..

But what are your limit and preferred vitola ?

I prefer a DC, they're my main go to cigar. 2 hours ish, plenty of time for 2 episodes of a box set and a few beers.

A Prominentes (DC) is 49x 7 5/8" & a Julieta No2 (Churchill) is 47 x 7". I remember having my first Churchill - an aluminium tubed R&J; I have built up to it & wondered if I would be able to finish it. Luckily I was enjoying it so much, it wasn't a problem, usually lasts me 90mins. My first DC was a fair bit later & was the Hoyo, a good one to start with & they usually last me around 2hrs.

My tips would be:
Ensure you have eaten a full meal & make sure you will have 1/2hr longer than the above times to ensure your not rushed.
Have a good supply of drinks to accompany the smoke, having to leave the cigar to go an queue for another pint is a real pain & your cigar might go out, if it's a long queue. So I would buy a coffee to start with & 1 1/2 pints for a CH & 2pints for a DC.
Smoke slow & put the cigar down for a minute if you feel it's getting too much. Best of all, smoke with a friend or two & you'll be surprised how easy you'll find finishing these fine vitolas; then one day you might be up for a Diademas, 55x 9 1/8", my last one took 3 hrs 15!

Robusto's are my favorite sized cigars and 140- 52 is my max ,anything bigger I find it becomes a chore for me.

DCs are my favourite vitola as well- the Punch and Hoyo versions are superb. They'd probably last about 90 minutes with me. Definitely a weekend smoke when you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy.

Churchills are my favourite, and go-to smoke, usually last 75-90 mins, Robustos usually 15mins less.

Cheers Simon some great tips there....I have one of them diademas in the humi too....didn't realise it was such a long smoke untill a discussion about it on the forum with your self and someone else.

I think it's ones I'm going keep in the humi for some time...unless I find my self like Marc's kid and wife free for the weekend hahah

Roubsto extra or a Corona grande are my biggest smokes I've enjoyed that I can remember.

Robusto 15 minutes?.....you must smoke like Laurance at sautters

I'm with PeeJay. The Lonsdale probably is my favourite long smoke but I have just stocked up on DC's as I like to have a 2 hour smoke from time to time.

I also really like Corona Gordas, especially Ramon Allones Superiores Punch Punch and Upmann Magnum 46.

DC's are my favourite vitola. Not just the size and smoking time but IMO the SLR, Hoyo, Punch, Lusi and Gigantes are some of the best cigar experiences out there, and consistently so. I favour longer smokes as usually I only smoke once a week on a Saturday when all I have planned is cigars and a few drinks.

I love long cigars more than anything else, DC's, Lanceros, Lonsdales, Churchill's etc just seem to give a more interesting smoke, probably down to the evolution throughout. Anything short I've tried like half coronas, petit robusto coronas junior etc has always left me thinking it would have been nice it it was a proper length.

I smoke more Robustos. On average lasts for one hour.
