last summer I enjoyed a Hoyo DC from the late nineties... a hangover from my first foray into cuban cigars. It was a joy. It was super smooth and easy going - I was concerned it would be domineering and hard work as such a lengthy smoke (and I rarely go for something of that scale), but was quite the opposite. It may have been over-aged for some and they might have found it bland, but I found it light and smooth."Dear heart, you're talking to a man- a real man- who drinks straight Tequilla, with lime and salt on the rim, and smokes cigars" (J Zavala)

Well I hope you'll be lighting up a 'winning stick' too?

And 'I don't give a shit' for that matter.
The word shit entered the modern English language via having been derived from the Old English nouns scite and
the Middle Low German schite, both meaning “dung,” and the Old English noun scitte, meaning “diarrhea.” Our most
treasured cuss word has been with us a long time, showing up in written works both as a noun and as a verb as far back as the14th century.
Scite can trace its roots back to the proto-Germanic root skit-, which brought us the German scheisse, Dutch schijten, Swedish skita, and Danish skide. Skit- comes from the Indo-European root skheid- for “split, divide, separate,” thus shit is distantly related to schism and schist. (If you’re wondering what a verb root for the act of separating one thing from another would have to do with excrement, it was in the sense of the body’s eliminating its waste — “separating” from it, so to speak. Sort of the opposite of today’s “getting one’s shit together.”)'Cigars are a hobby, cigarettes an addiction'

What I meant was that although I can understand how you noted late 90's Hoyo's have aged well (perhaps better than current stocks will manage), going back to the 80's I think the difference may have been even more marked. The DC's I smoked, helped me understand why the Hoyo DC had been so popular, whereas modern version to me seems too mild for such a large stick.

your comments have given me to pause and think on the other comparable smokes of 'then' and now, and i would agree with you. Also the marketing and production seems to be more about driving consumption now. No bad thing as its demand that sustains the industry, but i have always seemed to prefer either absolutely 'green' or that touch older with decent aging."Dear heart, you're talking to a man- a real man- who drinks straight Tequilla, with lime and salt on the rim, and smokes cigars" (J Zavala)
