  • Does the temperatureaffect the cigar?

Was wondering if the temperature of the air affects the taste of the cigar?

Of course at the moment we're lucky even in tropical London to have more than 5 degrees these days in the evening. I'm sure it was around 2 or 3 the other night when I had a smoke.

It was January COTM and went out 4 or 5 times. Again I'm blaming the temperature. As my cigars usually don't go out at all.

I personally feel that temperature does affect the taste of cigars and if I'm smoking in an outdoor area at this time of year, I wouldn't smoke a really top quality stick as I feel it would be a waste.

Yes agreed if its single figures i tend to stick to my cheaper stuff. The flavours tend to be muted although it can still be enjoyable if you have a good coat.

Cold temps certainly mutes flavour & the mechanics of the burn may well be affected too. I don't suppose many Cubans would get smoke a cigar under 15oC, let alone under 10oC. I use machine made strong smokes so even when a little muted, I can still have a decent smoke. When fishing, I'll be well wrapped up so at least I won't be cold; sitting outside a pub in Aberdeen, I keep to short smokes as hypothermia tends to put a dampers on the day

I've found that burn is definitely affected in cold / damp conditions and therefore I never fully appreciate the cigar. Tend to smoke only a couple of times a month in winter because of this, even though I can smoke in the garage to shield from the worst of the elements.

Yes. There's a conversation here about moisture content, relative humidity and temperature changes and the relationship between all three that I would like to elaborate on more when I have the time. To be continued..
