• Cigar recommendations.

Hi,

As the title says i would like some tips in what cigars you guys/girls would suggest to a new cigar smoker,I have only tried under half a dozen different cigars in my 12-18 months of getting into this new found delight,
I have stuck to what i like for the past few months in staying with the H. Upmann Coronas junior(tubos),i did have a few Montecristo Open Regata and really enjoyed them,

I am at the time being trying to stick to the lighter/Medium shorter cigars as i don`t want to go for a big smoke and not enjoy it and then it stubs my journey out in a puff of smoke,

I do understand all our taste are different and a recommendation could not work out as good for me as it does you,But as mentioned i would really appreciate any guidance you fellow members have.

Thanks in advance,

Ian.

This is what i have already,

El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme
Romeo y Julieta No 2
Romeo y Julieta Exhibition No 4
Montecristo No 2
H. Upmann Coronas junior(tubos)

Try the Hoyo De Monterey Epicure No.2 a good creamy cigar. I did a video a while back, see if you can find it.

Hi Stocko,

You will pick up some great tips and recommendations if you stick around; the guys on the forum are a lovely and knowledgeable bunch.

The sticks that I continue to enjoy as a relative newcomer (and are not 'big smokes') are:

Trinidad Reyes: think spiced white chocolate latte if such a thing exists!
H. Upmann Half Corona: smooth, creamy, slight coffee kick
Hoyo du Monterrey Petit Robusto: A really easy and enjoyable smoke, great draw, quite nutty and creamy IMO
Por Larra?aga Petit Corona: hints of caramel, especially if you can get an aged one
Montecristo No.4 (or 5 if you fancy a shorter smoke): nice spicy, cocoa-like profile

Things like the Partagas Short are good too, though a little too earthy for me personally. Based on what your likes are above, the five suggested would be a good start. If you can, get two or three of each so that you can try them numerous times; once is sometimes not enough to work out your likes/dislikes (that's my excuse anyway!)

Another tip would be the Relative Humidity that you keep your sticks at. I have found that 65% is the optimum RH for me; burn and flavours seem much better at 65% (than say at 72%) in my experience. If you are storing in a humidor, opt for a slightly higher humidity boveda pack (it sounds like this is what you are using based on previous threads) as the combination of the cedar and the fact that the seal is not air tight will mean that your RH will end up being slightly lower. For example, if your ideal is 65%, opt for a 69% Boveda. If storing in Tupperware (a 'Tupperdore') the RH on the pack will be what you get due to the seal. I now store in Tupperware as I find it worry free.

When you do get new sticks, try to let them rest for a few weeks; as your stock builds (and your bank account empties) you will have smokes ready to go so this becomes less of an issue as you go along.

EDIT: One I wish I had known when I first started... make sure you are well fed and watered before smoking and preferably have a coffee, some chocolate or sugary drink (some just use a teaspoon of sugar) at hand to avoid nicotine sickness. With shorter smokes it shouldn't be too much of a problem and certainly far less so as you indulge more regularly.

Some great advice from K444HEP

When you buy any cigars just let them rest for at least 30days in my opinion.

I'd suggest trying
Trinidad Reyes
Upmann mag 46
Monte 3
Party D4 or d5
Bolivar no 3 or royal Corona and bbf

Not to put you of cohibas but I suggest if you want to try them, try getting them with age or buying them and letting them rest for a few years before smoking one...that way you'd appreciate it and have a nice smoke. Rather than a young nasty cigar.

Great advice and recommendations have already been mentioned by the chaps on here.

For my pennies worth, i would like to backup Pandyboy - try the Hoyo de Moneterry Epicure No.2, this is a classic cuban smoke with heaps of cream, light spice, and cedar. It is stuffed with flavour, but carries a lighter body and low nicotine punch. This smoke is often recommended to beginners, but it is equally beloved by many a seasoned smoker. The Hoyo marca remains my favourite, and the epicure No.2 is my go to vitola when i need a reliable, tasty stick.
Only the impossible is worth the effort.

Some good recommendations here. I would add San Cristobal De La Habana El Principe, Ramon Allones Short Club Corona and Ramon Allones Specially Selected (aka RASS).

Can echo SHAMZ84 comments on young Vs aged Cohiba....that's why I tend not too smoke them cos I ain't got no aged ones [emoji23]

My favourite small smoke is the Ramon Allones Small Club Corona aka RASCC or a Boli no 3 Tubo both preferable with a few years on them but the RASCC is also acceptable young...

Slightly bigger - the Boli Royal Coronas are a lovely smoke.

Edit - mcdee beat me to it!

Thanks for all the great recommendations guys,I knew this site would be great for advice and lots of knowledge,
As I have the 1 out Pandyboy video already I am even more so looking forward to trying them out,
But I will take the advice on board and leave them to settle in my humi pack for now,

Will be taking a trip in to Chester at the weekend so I will be popping into turmeaus cigar shop chester to make some more purchases,

Thanks
