Personally I prefer the flavour of CC's. There are definitely some NC's that I like, just as there are CC's I don't like. But in general I have found a majority of the NC's I've tried are either very bland to far to peppery.

I haven't smoked many NCs and did consider trying a few more but to date every NC I've smoked felt like smoking a large cigarette. No real flavour or development, very loose and perhaps even more importantly no 'character'. I like the variation in quality, annoying as it is when you pull a bad one; I like the rustic cabs and simple but pretty dress boxes. Yep, Cubans have character!

There are some NC gems like tatuaje and the Undercrown series but there is some (a lot) of bad ones and theres soooooo many NC brands ipts hard to find the real gems.

This is also a good thing, as you have a lot to experience with that many brands and provides the perfect excuse to samle more cigars

I smoke roughly 50/50 NC and CC. I enjoy the variety of trying different NC smokes. I do think the quality and variety of NC cigars has really gone up in the last few years.

I've had some really good NC sticks but they are very different; there tends to be no evolution, and although very enjoyable they rarely stop me in my tracks.

Now it's not every cuban cigar that wows me either and I've had some very average examples over the years. However when a cc smoke is really good it is unbeatable.

I agree with a lot of points above . It?s just harder to find a nc that hits your tastes perfectly

Personally I can pick up a cc and turn my palette to it easier

Why ... I really don?t know .. probably just in my head

For me the choice is just too daunting with nc..and my Cubans hit the spot at the moment...maybe down the line if the Cubans cigars don't appeal to me I could go down the NC route but at the moment happy to try and new Cubans.

I'm with Shamz on this - I've had a few NC's but the choice is bewildering - at least you know more or less what you are getting with a Cuban. Also the names of some of the NC's I find rather off putting but are clearly marketed at a certain clientele with names like Roadkill, 0.50 Calibre, Flathead 554

For the same reason you never get tobacco beetles with non Cuban cigars .

My stock changes all the time. And these days I separate cigars into two.
Nice cigars.
Not nice cigars.
Simples.
Doesn't matter to me where they come from.
What does matter to me:
Quality
Taste
Quality
Draw
Quality
Value for money

I have all sorts of CC and NC available to me.
My current go-to cigar is the My Father no2. It's awesome
But a lot of what I smoke depends on mood, time, what I've eaten etc....
Horses for courses.

The main issue with NCs is the variability. Some are stellar and I would smoke in preference to any Cuban, when the mood takes me.
Some are dog shit and I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
And then there's everything in between.
For me, that's half the fun - finding out what you like and then using that to help find more you like.
Not smoking NCs is like eating out, but never trying a new restaurant because you might have a bad meal. And if you do that, you could miss out on the best meal of your life. Or food poisoning.
Smoke around, smoke everything - enjoy the journey

CC is just what I started with. And I don't smoke that regularly that the options the are huge already. I've tried some NC not many. But the options always there.

One thing I want to get from this forum is some idea where to go with NC cigars!

And what is that 112yo American gentleman smoking daily!?

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

I think it's fairly simple, everyone knows about Cubans and they are meant to be the holy grail of cigars so most would look for a Cuban as a first time experience

I personally prefer the flavour profile of a good CC. Can also enjoy a NC too though. As groundhog said, it's about nice and not nice, at least that's the case for me.

Then give groundhog and me some idea of what you like and as probably the two most frequent NC smokers we might be able to give you some pointers.
