Just wondering if anyone has thought about adding the contents of their frigidor's or scubadors to their house insurance. I'm doubtful that the contents would be covered in the event of a fire, but on a serious note even my small collection of would cost well over ?1000 to replace and I can quite imagine that some collectors will have many times that in replacement costs.

You should be able to list one off valuables upto a certain value on most policies and anything over the limit will tend to be added at an extra cost. This really depends on your insurance company but should find its within your standard policy limit for valuables

Wasn't there a case recently where some chap insured his cigars again fire then smoked them and tried to claim against his policy.?

I think so, but that's a deffo fraud case lol. I used to sell home insurance when I first started in Banking 9 years ago. I remember having to call our underwriters to list certain items under a value of ?1500 and had to refer anything over for a bespoke price along if they had an appetite to insure the item.

I heard a story where the guy tried this but was then done for Arson.... It was in a pub so probs just a pub story!

We have discussed this several times before so look back using search. My collection has a significant total value but I have never bothered insuring it. Firstly proving what you had in the collection at the time of the fire would be very difficult, even with a spreadsheet up to date, doesn't really prove anything. Having receipts to prove you bought them at some time doesn't mean you hadn't smoked them or sold them since. And when you have over ?10K's worth, I am sure the insurance cost would be prohibitive.
Of course smoke damage, ironically could be just as bad as them actually being burned.

We just renewed our home contents insurance, my cigars are not covered. It seemed that as soon as we mentioned them, they just could't cope with the unusual and high value nature of them as an item.
