A balaclava probably pairs better at this time of year!
Interesting parody as the battle of balaclava, was an English French and ottoman offensive against the Russians.
And no doubt plenty of baklava would of been consumed, being of ottoman origin
A lovely glass of red wine is perfect with a cigar for me, i love whiskey and Mojitos in the summer to, however i always sip water after every sip of alcohol to keep my pallet clean. The problem is with alcohol or cold/fizzy drinks is that they tend to saturate the pallet to much, which results in not being able to taste the cigar at all. Reason why i love wine the most with a cigar because its generally softer on the palette (depending on the wine mind you!) and has a lower alcohol content. Make sure the wine is properly decanted for a good two hours before you pair, to help relax the sharp tannins, which you also get with fresh cigars..............all dependent on the age of the wine of cause.
I never smoke expensive, rare or aged cigars with nothing but water.........it would be just such a waste of a smoke and time invested, without enjoying in its pure beauty.
I know that places like CGars do tasting events usually pairing cigars with whiskey or other spirits such as rum. Personally, I wish they would do them with wine.
Incidentally has anyone been to one of these events?
Marc
