  • UK Cigar taxes

Was just trying to work out the HMRC uptake per stick we buy.

So taking say a more expensive stick like the CoRo at ?24.99 from our sponsor which weighs in at 11.66gr

Duty rate is fixed at ?259.44/kg = 25.944p/g

    ?20.825 before vat (VAT=?4.165)?3.02 duty (on weight)?17.80

So on a ?24.99 cigar HMRC makes ?7.18

    a box of 25 sticks, ?180

    Have i missed anything?

Oh and UK imports must come through H&F so there's an extra layer for us.

    B.

Kinda feel sorry for UK retailers as most of us probably stock up when we go abroad.

Ah but if you get stopped and taxed by HRMC they don't take the cigars out of the box to weigh them so add the weight of the box to your figures.

I have heard that they start to question 'personal use' around the 400 mark

                          Indubitably.

There's no benefit in keeping the quotas for tobacco. More revenues.

This, many times, B. Although the taxes are pretty high, it also seems like H&F charge a large amount for imports
