Hullo!

I am getting married in the first week of October (6th to be precise) and was looking to purchase some cigars to toast the day with my groomsman and one or two others.

Now i'm the only one who really smokes cigars, some of the group have them now and then but not that often.

Any suggestions for something that's not to basic but not to fancy - not BHK's!

I had thought about a Montecristo Edmundo or the petit version, maybe an RyJ of some sort or a lower end cohiba as then those not in the know may recognise the brands.

Either way some suggestions or thoughts would be great as I am a bit stumped what to go with.

Hello!

Congratulations on the pending big day

If your fellows are not cigar smokers i certainly would not go for any cohiba, and you can get more bang for your buck with some other smokes.

The montecristo's are a great place to start looking - you could always go for the forever classy No.2, or if they're a bit steep and long you could get the petit No.2 which is a truly fantastic smoke!

I imagine they'll also recognise the brand since it's the world's most smoked marca, and i think the torpedo shape is always a feat to behold, and makes it that little bit more special than a Robusto. They're also not that costly, certainly cheaper than a Cohiba...

If time isn't an issue, and you really want to make it a long and special smoke, then i would go for a double corona, the Hoyo one being one i truly love, and is often praised by others. Though any of the DC's will look the part! The RyJ Churchill is another large, and enjoyable smoke, and again they look the part for an event.

These smokes all are mild/medium body, so the flavours will not be too spicy for those that do not smoke often, and will not leave them in a nicotine puddle - though perhaps have some wedding cake on hand

Whatever you chose, i imagine it will be an incredible day, and i wish you and yours all the best for it!
Only the impossible is worth the effort.

I was at a wedding a few weeks ago and took 5 pack of Rafael gonzalez perlas. My friends aren't really cigar smokers so there a short enough smoke they didn't waste them and don't break the bank at ?38.

Firstly, congratulations mrnutt.

I would go for something accessible that gives an undeniably pleasurable experience. I suggest the Trinidad Reyes. At just over ?10.00 from CGars, you can't go wrong. Smooth, creamy, almost like smoking white chocolate.

Don't buy anything that will break your heart when you see people stubbing them out after a few draws and realising that they're not man enough after all. I take a box of cheap Dutch half coronas for people like that and a few good ones for people I know will appreciate them

Some good suggestions here. I would say something like Romeo y Julieta tubos no.2 are good to have. Decent smokes, handy packaging for carrying around in your pocket and not too expensive.

for just slightly cheaper than the petit edmudo you could get the RyJ petit Churchill which is a nice looking cigar with the double band. also it would be a lighter smoke than the montecristo for those who don't normally smoke.

i would also say the no3... just as they are smaller and won't be wasted to much..

You could also go away from Cubans and get some cheaper NC alternative.

Depending on how many Groomsmen you will have...Just take one or two to share about...as from my experience...people have a short attention span...and i would factor the weather...not everyone is made to chill outside in the cold and rain.

Thanks all for the great suggestions and advice - I think I will firstly ask who would actually want one and go from there as I know some may not quite like it.

Any recommendations for the Non Cuban sticks?

I guess I shall see numbers wise - if theres only 2 or 3 wanting one then I might go cuban.

At my recent stag do I had a quick tally round of who might a cigar at the wedding and was a low number so looking at 5 max and 3 of the 5 (this includes me) smoke cigars so does mean I don't want to be to scrimpy - I am finding the HdMR Epicure no2 is becoming a true firm fav of mine, had 3 now and love em so thinking of getting something like that as I think its a cracker and isn't too strong, I am not sure how its classifeid.

I am still trying to get my head round what actually constitutes all the different ways people describe strengths and flavors of cigars..... people mention mild, medium and strong flavours but then also use the same three words to describe a stick in other ways and I do get rather confuzzled

As some of the other have said Romeo y Julieta tubos make a good choice as they are some of the milder Cubans.
They also travel well and the red and white tube looks classy.
For you I would go with a Cohiba Espl?ndidos or Robusto tubos!!!
Congrats!!!

Congratulation! I think you have two options:

-If you want to offer cigars to everyone, even occasional or non smoker: I would go for a mild and short cigar (30-45 minutes smoke). Tubos is a good option because your guests will have a souvenir or smoke them later. I would recommend well know brands like Montecristo, Cohiba, R&J... Don't forget to bring some spare cutters and lighters.

-If your some of your close friends/family are really into cigars, you could wait for the end of the party and offer them a very special smoke, open a very special bottle and have a blast.

Have a great wedding!

I would think as mentioned earlier, getting a number of potential smokers is the best route and from there if you know they are likely to appreciate the gesture go in for something nice. If more of a novelty for them, el cheapo. Except for you of course, deserve the finer sticks for the occasion. Also congratulations

Congrats. Enjoy the day it moves so fast!

I got married just before the smoking ban. Got a small humidor full of PC vitolas. May have been RyJ I can't remember. I think most went but the sheer number that were wasted was criminal! [emoji854] As expected I suppose.

Congrat's indeed, hope all goes smoothly on the day.
My advice is have the big & splendid cigars on your stag (like the Esplen or R&J Churchill) & on the Wedding day accept you will likely have little time & be trying to circulate & spending time with your guests & bride. I think the smaller, shorter smokes mentioned above are good suggestions, just check out you have somewhere you can actually smoke at the venue. Considering it's Oct could be windy & wet & there's usually 'no smoking' rule even in marques these days!
