Made a mistake

When I got my first humidor a few months ago I quickly went through ?400 stocking up with sticks ranging from ?5-?16.


With a few exceptions I've been underwhelmed with a lot of them. Think I should've bought better and subsequently fewer sticks as ultimately I'd rather smoke less often and enjoy it more, anybody else found that?

Also...you might find the cigars just need some rest.... for example I bought a box of Reyes last year wasn't impressed when I got home to smoke it
..left it in the humi for over a month tried it again and loved it...I had the same experience with a partagas Millie Flure...hated it at first...waiting for a year to smoke the next one and loved it..

My rule is never knock a cigar out of your list until you've had it at least 3/4 times. As each experience my be completely different.

Oliva Serie V Belicoso, SD4, RASS have really stood out to me. Don't get me wrong I've had plenty of nice smokes but they just didn't give me that wow feeling. I guess its unrealistic to expect that from every stick but maybe quality of quantity is the way to go. I'm probably smoking 4 a week average, few enough to up the price a bit but not so few I can afford Behike's every time hahaha.

I always try and give them a couple of weeks minimum just acclimatise. Thanks for the advice all

Maybe give them a little more time. I find that when I'm in a hurry to try something new that I'm not blown away most of the times. After at least three months the sticks get better. After a year of so even more. There aren't to many cigars that smoke well young IMO, a couple come to mind though: HUHC and Hoyo Petit Robusto.

As has been said, a little rest can go a long way, specially if the cigars travelled recently. Upmann generally tend to smoke pretty well young, IMO - it's one of the most approachable marcas and remains my all-round favorite as well. Given that you enjoyed SD4 and RASS, perhaps going for the more full bodied ones like the Mag46, the now defunct PC and the brilliant Mag56 LE 2015, if you can find any - they're still around. I'd also suggest trying the Party Lusitania, if you haven't already. Personally, I find it to be excellent when young, and absolutely brilliant with age.

I agree on the HUHC and the HdMPR. I have a Party Lusitania and, based on what you say, I'll try it sooner than I was planning and will get a Mag 46 now too. Question: I recently bought a box of Bolivar Belicosos Finos - how will they smoke young? Do stronger CC merit a longer wait as a rule or not necessarily?

I haven't tried them all but in my book both 2015 LE's are stellar cigars and are box worthy. The RA is rather cheap and I would go for a box. The Mag 56 is one of the best sticks I've had and it smoked very good from the beginning on. I purchased a box and a fiver and it was so good that I had to dip into my box which I originally wanted to leave untouched for a few years because I believe that the Mag 56 will develop into something very special over the years. I have 20 left right now and it is very hard to keep my hands off them.

But give them at least three months to acclimatize before enjoying them.

Well, I don't live in the UK. Cigars are much cheaper over here.
