I assume that this fellow was quickly dispatched by our herfing mafioso - either that or he has gone back under that rock

Oh, but it was fun whilst it lasted

Its getting around that time of year people go on holiday come back think they can double their money by off loading fakes.

For some reason think a cigar forum will be the best place to do it go figure

A friend of mine dropped me a message when he got back from Cuba last week with a box of decidedly dodgy Esplendido's. I had to gently tell him that they were fakes.

I remember being propositioned in the bar at the Partagas factory a few years ago by some chap trying to sell me cigars. I just turned round and said I was buying the genuine ones from the shop counter behind me and not the fakes he was trying to peddle.

There is a crowd of sellers outside the old partagas factory shop who get very upset when you suggest they are fakes [emoji23]. A woman I know at work goes to cuba fairly often and insists blind that locals get the cigars at knock down prices when they go to the official shops.

There is a black market in genuine cigars in Cuba. MarkLondon lent me a book by this woman who was married to an Italian diplomat in Cuba and wrote about their life there. He had access to anything he wanted at reduced prices but they came in unstamped boxes. This market is also available to ex-pats who work there but I doubt whether tourists would get anywhere near them. The guy in the book tested them by bending them gently, apparently genuine long filler cigars will bend a bit but short fillers and those filled with crap snap in half.

                Now you spilled the secret.

There are some of these ex-pats who purchase empty stamped boxes to fill them up with genuine cubans to sell them on the grey market.
