Burning issue

Over the weekend I lit up a stick and had burning issues from start to finish that I couldn't fix, I went online and a certain site suggested that the cigar could have been to moist (I am not sure that was the exact word) and suggested taking it out a day or so earlier before smoking. My humidity levels have been in the upper 60s and that has been fairly consistent throughout. I don't like cigars to dry but I do t want to have my expensive cigars burning badly ever time I light one up, it could have just been a one off with just that particular stick as the one before from the same batch was fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What are you using to light them? Making sure a cigar is properly lit is important in my experience, if it starts lit one sided it's going to burn one sided more times than not. A lot of people say a lower RH will result in more consistent burns but personally I like 70%, that being said I'm going to be giving 65% another go soon so I may change my mind. Sometimes there's nothing you can do and despite best efforts a smoke will not behave, maybe try lowering the RH and making sure you take care to light up evenly then if you still have slight issues you can be safe in the knowledge that it couldn't be avoided.

It could be construction, it happens more often than you would think especially with Cubans. Only if it starts to happen with every cigar would I look at over humidification etc.

I could be a construction issue, but since I dropped the RH to a Max of 65% the issue has become a lot rarer.

I had the same issues a few months ago when i stored mine at 69 (Boveda in a scuba), i then went through a period of dry boxing the cigar for 24 hours which helped. However, this took the spontaneity and fun out of selecting one in the moment (a bit like when you have to pre-order a meal a week in advance - i may not fancy the beef in a week, damn it! ), therefore i decided to drop rh to 65 and i have not looked back since - for me the perfect balance of flavour/moisture, without the burn issues i had previously experienced.

I usually use matches but on this occasion I used a new lighter that I bought but there wasn't much butane in it to light it properly so I reverted back to using matches but i couldn't get it right. I am going to take my next smoke out a day before & see how I get on.
