  • Heat + Humidity? = Mould

I have a slightly larger collection that I though I would, sitting in three cooler boxes, all sitting at 69% thanks to Boveda. As summer is rapidly approaching, I was starting to think about the higher temperature, humidity and the risk of mould. I have been through two summers with a 56l cooler box and Boveda without any issues, but the risk was a lot less then.

Does anybody have any input on 25c+ temperatures and Boveda?

Maybe time to move to a Wineador?

In the UK I don't think we have to worry about the high temperature as it doesn't tend to last long. If you are worried about the humidity you could drop down to 62 or 65. I dropped mine to 65 and haven't looked back...much more enjoyable smokes imo.

I have a mini wineador which i have never switched on and so far my cigars have been fine..I used to worry about the temperature but someone did say to me. The cigars are from the Cuba...not exactly a cool place is it lol. So don't go beating your self up about it...since then I haven't.

At 69 you shouldn't have a problem. I'm considering dropping to 65 too. It's generally safer to be on the lower end of the sweet spot. I'd say anything from 62-69 is safe for scuba box storage and hot weather. Think where this tobacco is grown, cured, rolled and warehouses. Generally the only reason to concern your self with temperature is if you are trying to perfectly age stock. In this case you want a constant 62-65rh and 16c. In an ideal world you would have a unit of walk in humidor with climate control but not everyone has that setup.
The answer to your question about mold is easy. If your RH is under 69 you're unlikely to get mold. If you're using scuba boxes make sure you burp them and allow the air to change every week or so.

Not even JJ Fox has that, I've been there on a hot summer's day and they've had the humidor door open and fans on to get the heat down.

Would you say the same for a wineador that's not on?

Probably not an issue with a wineador Sham as they're more practical and you'll probably open it regularly
