  • How long would a cigar last out of a humidor?

I was wondering how long a cigar would last out of the humidor as i go away at weekends to the caravan and i was going to nip to the cigar shop to get one before i leave on a friday and plan on smoking it saturday night?
Would it keep fresh in one of those aluminium tubes amd inside a ziplock bag all day friday and untill saturday night or will it spoil in this space of time? And what would be the maxium time to store it like that? Thank you.

Don't worry about it drying out in a day, the danger is more it getting damaged in transit if it isn't in a tube or similarly protected

A zip lock bag is fine for a weekend. If longer put in a cotton bud moistened with water, making sure it can't actually touch a wrapper. I keep my supply on the rig that way for 2-3wks without problem. Tubes are great for transporting out for the evening & would be fine for several weeks (I have read up to 3 months outside of a humidor but that would be pushing it if in a dry environment IMHO).

Unless it's really dry or high/low in temp, I think you're probably fine keeping a cigar out of a humi for a week or so.

If you had room I'd maybe keep any sticks you're taking in a little tupperware or something, it will keep them safer, and hopefully keep conditions relatively stable

My dad was a cigar smoker .

          different era of course ... back in the 60's & 70's ( and maybe 50's ) .

he used to buy a box of smokes almost every month ( monty#4's I think ) .

never used/had a humidor just left the (open) box on the sideboard .

i have never left cigars lying around for a month ... but I am pretty sure you could and they would still be smokable .

I tend to use a ziplock bag if just taking a couple of cigars away, any more or for longer I take my travel humidor.

At a Burns night celebration in January I was offered a Montecristo 4 that had been in a drawer for two years. I politely declined.

For me it depends on size. If it's a large cigar it lasts about 2 hours out of the humidor. [emoji87]

There are 69% 8g Boveda packs on eBay that turn any ziploc bag I to into a temporary humidor.

If you are worried about cigars being out I found this very cheap alternative for a travel.humi....not as great build as the herfador or xkiar but it does the job and protects the cigars. Ive used it a few times now a week holiday and a few weekend here and there.

+1 on these, I bought a couple after Shamz kindly brought them to our attention on here.
