My first cigar ever was a henri wintermans corona delux i think it was called. The one in the tubo. Really enjoyed that then looked into other hand rolls. Pretty sure i spent 6 months or so browsing the forum before i joined so this place was really useful to me.

First hand roll is lost to the mists of time. Probably a la rica or a quorum or something like that ordered from cgars or mysmokingshop.

First cigar i remember vividly smoking was a wonderful lusi bought from davidoff shop and smoked in a pub on the thames. It was the week that ash could from the iceland volcano was about and i remember smoking that with my mate and watching this purple sunset. Amazing day. Still to this day one of my favourite cigars but the lusis ive had since were pretty bland in comparison. I remember it being floral very strong and with a sweet licorice note. Been through 2 boxes since trying to chase that flavour. I do know it was an 08 box so fairly fresh back then.

Monte 4 back in 2008, brought a 5 pack after walking past Hollingsworth in Brum everyday for 2 weeks while training for my old company. The curiosity got the best of me one day and decided to pop in and came out with a 5 pack, lighter and cutter

Was either a RyJ no 2 or cedros no 3.
Got as part of a sampler.
Goodness knows why I bought more as I wasn't that impressed with the taste.

My first ever Cigar was a Villiger Export in 1999 after I left school.
Being a man of simple pleasures, my Grandfather who brought me up had always talked of them fondly. Though hadn't smoked for years.

His older brother, my uncle Bob whom I only saw at family gatherings would love a King Edward somewhere near the end of the night. It became my job to be the Cigar boy and I would get us both a cigar from the box and I would wheel him outside where we would talk openly for the duration of the smoke before heading back in.

After my uncle Bob passed away, I didn't touch a cigar for quite some time. But shortly before joining here, my brother in law, prompted by a similar discussion about tobacco had brought a lovely bundle of mostly NC Cigars back from one of his regular trips to Dubai.

I don't recall which one I tried first, but it prompted my membership here. At some point around that time I discovered quality Cuban cigars and as I recall my early Cuban sticks were some form of RyJ and Punch Tubo. Though I don't recall in which order I tried them.

Like so many my first memorable cigar was a King Edward... the sugary sweet hit on lighting them remained the best bit! The KE was a staple part of the uniform for University balls & other black tie events at the time... what rugby-lad freshly installed in a new dinner suit didn't feel he ought to have some cigars tucked in a top pocket to swank around with after dinner once the 'Gentlemen you may smoke' announcement had been made?? They were essential theatre, a part of trying to get a hockey/netball/ any girl out of their ball gown... and rather like a long line of bow ties undone at midnight in an attempt to look cool, the KE's were usually lost to the night and never fully enjoyed!

My first Cuban would have been at the hands of one of two people who used to work in the JJ Fox concession at Harrods. Now far grander than it was then, it used to be a small walk-in humidor room on the ground floor. Tucked in a corner of menswear it was only about two thirds of the size of the walk-in within the JJ Fox store in St James. June the long time Manager (who eventually went on the run the main store) and a really very well informed man called Laurence whose onward career I lost track of were my self-appointed tutors!

They took me under their wing, and sampled me through the ranks giving me a generous insight into an array of different sticks over the course of a year or so. Frankly I was probably an irritation at first (I was in store operations who I discovered had an appalling reputation for spoiling everyone's fun) as I simply used to pop into the walk -in for a nose-full of the glorious cigar smells! Maybe its because I was less officious than my colleagues, or maybe I just showed some enthusiasm, but as well as their time and attention they also gave me their own staff discount - I got a certain amount for being a Harrods employee and a little more on top from them.

I believe I started on Robustos, mostly sold from 25 (and the occasional 50 cab) and so were un-banded. I remember two marcas as being my starting point; Saint Luis Rey and HdM, and I believe the vitolas were Regios and Epicure no1 & no2. Cabinet quality really was notably different in my minds eye/ rose tinted specs. From those I went onto Upmann and all sorts of others including the inimitable D4, which I always enjoyed but smoked too hard and fast in my youth and so ended up with a sore tongue.

They also nudged me towards pyramides - at the time it was the launch of the VR Unicos ('97)... June advised me to pop a couple away and 'see what happens over time' and Laurence convinced me to add a few of its Boli counterpart for comparison. I still have one of each. Their enthusiasm and kindness lingers long in the memory.... thankfully far longer than the credit card debt I built up with them. I was on so little money that cigars should have been way down the list behind food, shelter and clothing!!!

I had an almost certainly fake Cohiba, probably a faux esplendidos, as a 15 year old in 2005 when it was my best friends 16th birthday. Despite it being fake I was hooked. The first cigar I really enjoyed was a Macanudo Court maybe 2 years later, I was young and naive don’t judge me. My first Cuban (real one anyway) was a JLP Cazadores, then over the next few years I smoked relatively frequently without having storage or a collection. In 2011 I bought my first humidor and a collection of Cuban cigars, the rest as they say is history.

Mine was a double corona of some sort. Holidaying in the Maldives and enquired about the cost of the cigars. The vendor said the humidor had broken so pick any one you want. I sat down with the first cigar and first book I ever read (Mr Nice). I?ve since smoked, and read, lots
