So inspired by the pondering moose who spookily also had a Choix Supreme as his first cigar in JJ Fox, what was the first cigar you smoked in a cigar shop?
It was in JJ Fox... and I am racking my brains. I had previously bought a JJ Fox own brand Non-Cuban to wander through Mayfair back to my then office with (dont know they do them anymore) and did the same with a Nub Sungrown. Butto smoke 'in' I am pretty sure it was a CoRO. I definitely know that the second was a HdM Pet Rob.
"Dear heart, you're talking to a man- a real man- who drinks straight Tequilla, with lime and salt on the rim, and smokes cigars" (J Zavala)
JJ's would have been stretching coincidence too far. Odd that we don't recommend the Choix Supreme to newbies more often
I agree, everyone recommends HdM Epi's, whereas I think the Le Hoyo range is much better. I think we all recommend what is in fashion without thinking about it. Taste is a very personal thing but I don't think the choix Supreme is or a number of other older less popular cigars are in favour at the moment.

Spot on Jerry, the Saint Luis Rey Regio was popular at the time as I recall but rarely mentioned nowadays
When recommending cigars to someone new to them I try not to do it based on cigars I like, I try to recommend a size most brands have so people can get a good idea on the brands and branch out from there, which is why I think starting with petit coronas is a good idea
