+1 on what Budgie Smuggler said. Typically I would want to let them rest at least 4 weeks, especially if they had come in the post, but with a lot being about personal preference trying one now and one after a period of time is a good idea.
When buying a box rather than singles I like to try to leave them untouched for 6-12 months as an ideal but the temptation is usually far too strong

When cigars are freshly rolled they have a strong ammonia taste which disappears with aging, I find 6-12 months as stated above to be a good ballpark figure.
When cigars are transported they would likely be exposed to some less than perfect conditions, many people find that stabilising them in a humidor for a few weeks will improve them over smoking them straight away.
