👍 I heartily concur. Plus three coffees with little cakes at the hotel cafe whilst smoking a RASS came to something silly like ?12.

Well, isn't that the idea behind all these taxes on alcohol, tobacco and other things? Of course we could argue about wether or not taxation makes sense in the first place, but maybe we leave that debate for another time...

That would suggest that European governments value their citizens health lower than ours which of course we know is not true

Flying to another country to get competitive prices sounds ok but if you are making a special trip, for example a return trip on the same day with ?50 flights, what sort of quantities are you having to purchase to make it cost effective?

I know this is a 'how long is a piece of string' type question but as a newbie currently buying singles and having never purchased abroad, or even boxes in the UK, are you looking at ?500 minimum spend or more ?1000 for example for middle of the road CC to make it worthwhile?

Obviously its worth saving up for a decent buy to make it more worthwhile but if you can get a fare for ?50 then you don't have to buy many cigars to make that back. A Monte Petit Edmundo can be bought in Europe for ?8-9, at C.Gars its ?14.99, do the maths.

Flying to Europe specifically to take advantage of the prices sounds like a good idea, I'm already pricing up flights. My issue would be storage, does anyone use a good cost effective self made solution?

As many as I can afford/justify to my other half I suppose. My humi would probably fit 6 boxes if I was lucky so I'd not be able to get more than about 3 at once assuming it will never be less than half full.

Very sad times being a cigar smoker living in the UK....... the only British retailer i buy from is JJ Fox online and i frequently visit the store for a smoke...............ocasionally i buy from Cgars.

The rest of my cigar money sees other retailers outside the UK which is a big shame, i would love to support the UK ratailers but simpy cant justify the price......

Although tobacco dutys are very high in the UK i strongly beleive H&F are responsible for the retailers high mark ups.......where they have the monopoly and also where its a very nich product they can get away with selling to the retailers at high prices............taxes are fairly low on cigars in comparison to other tobacco products in the UK because the sales are very low...........so how could they be marked up so high? H&F!

Cigar prices have gone up dramatically in the past 3 years........where cigaretts & rolling tobacco hasnt because the costs, sales, health lables etc are a lot more regulated/influenced

If the goverment decided to take controll of all importation & distribution of cigars in the UK......your Partagas Shorts would be ?6 a stick not ?10........... and if im honest if this was to happen and cigars were to be sold at the correct margins ide be all for it!!

What dosnt help also are retailers that take advantage of LE's and other stock its just pure greedy.............i bought a CRS from cgars when it was released for ?35 and now its nearly ?60 a stick in just under 3 years! same with new Monti 80th ?40 when released and the last time i looked it was being sold for ?60 a stick and hasnt even been out 6 Months hahaha..............thats not the tax mans fault lol

Apart from JJ Fox........none of the other retailers give you much incentive to buy from them, in fact puts me off with greed and cockyness

All of the above is my opinion and not facts

I've only ever purchased from CGARS, not sure why. I think I picked up their name when I was on here before. Will have to look at JJ Fox and see what they have on offer in the future if I can't get my sticks elsewhere

...and The Cigar Club. Even when you're buying single sticks/small quantities it pays to shop around. I've found that, between them, these guys and JJ Fox generally have some of the best prices of the 20-odd on-line retailers that I've looked at; but, again, there doesn't seem to be one outfit that consistently undercuts everybody else for every type of individual cigar.
