I think the party involved would possibly like to remain un-named... At least he would probably have a big hissy fit if I named him.

But the crux of it was that the pressure was too great and completely collapsed the box and squashed the cigars until they resembled road kill.

Ah this...[emoji23] I must say I'm surprised at everyone's unwillingness to spill the beans[emoji15]
Vac packing is a great way to send stuff in the mail but you have to set the vacuum very low.

Cosmetic damage only of the ones that have been smoked after being subjected to the patent pending "vac-packed box-pressed extreme ™" treatment.

Stop before the box starts to bend in and your good and is actually recommended for long term by the experts. That's me in case your wondering.

It was about a dozen boxes. Went thru a spell of always buying two boxes. Smoking one and vac-pack box-pressed extreme ? the other. Only at the time I wasn't aware of the box pressed extreme part.

I think what gets this lot upset is I also put some cohiba to the same treatment that I acquired from my mate mitch. Sure they will smoke just as well. Just don't look so pretty.

Moral is you live you learn. I still vac pac and will continue to do so, even if it is just to protect them from me. Just easy on the extreme part and definitely don't do singles.

                You have been warned lol

In defence (kinda) of vacuum packing:

I went and watched it being done to my order at LCDH Amsterdam earlier in the year, and being as I am, I asked questions. The rationale was that it stops goods moving about; provides a modicum of protection; decent tamper detection (as a bag would re-inflate on opening); and per some previous discussion help maintain the condition of the sticks.

However, because vacuum sealing involves pulling a modest vacuum, no air (at whatever humidity or with whatever cedary or tobacco goodness) can circulate. Whilst this probably wouldn't inhibit the aging of individual sticks, it'd negate the effect that seems to be part of the reason cigars are say, bundled in cabinet boxes.

I understand it for shipping, but not for aging.

So moving on from anyone who may not wish to remember er... excessive vacuum event...

Is it ok to leave them vac bagged for aging and does it effectively seal in whatever state of humidification the sticks are when bagged?

I wouldn't, even if you knew what humidity level you were trapping them in the air would eventually go stale. I'm sure the opposite opinion will be along soon.

Have you got pictures of the carnage's? I was expecting it to be squeezed to death... At least there's some life in there stogie..

So aging with vac pack...so this is new to me...what are the benefits? I suppose if you leave a boveda or 2 in abox would that have the same result as a lock and lock box?

Wigs is aware of my opinion; I think this idea to age cigars in a vac pack seal is nonsense, if it really did anything vendors would have been doing it for years, it hardly a new technology and cigar ageing isn't exactly adverse to crackpot ideas and theories so I refuse to believe this hasn't been tried before

There are plenty of subscribers to the vacuum approach around the world, and even by their admission, you won't know what you've got until the time comes to smoke them. Some guys have taken the trouble to check after a number of years and have not been disgruntled with the state of their sticks. Improved? I think it's generally inconclusive. In terms of the OP and whether the sealing maintains the original RH, the material used is key. Regarding the film/plastic (whatever you want to call it) some are actually porous it has been found, so anyone thinking that they can just stick them in the wardrobe will have a surprise unless they do their homework. I think many people store their love bundles in RH controlled environments to ensure safe storage.
