I have initiated contact with both the Herbarium at Cambridge university and a Professor of Botany for University of Oxford Plant Sciences. Perhaps a little over the top... but I'm sufficiently interested now.

The question is Marc, will they be, maybe there is a government grant they could procure to investigate the cause and difference of plume and mould on Havana cigars. No doubt over the years they have researched lesser topics [emoji6]

Well, the conservatives have a horse in this race.... I am lead to believe that their member club in London has a pretty decent cigar bar.

Well after looking at the pictures I provided which included the ones from the link in this thread and others which fit the profile of the dusty "crystals" people report...... The Cambridge Herbarium have referred me to the Kew Fungarium.

That in itself starts to paint a picture for me. Though we are far from an answer.

If he is, one has to question there training & credentials.

The Landlord of my house is covering the outside walls with some spray... and they have place a huge machine inside to take out the humidity,
They have told us that this afternoon we can go inside the house again....

anyway I am getting a machine to keep all dryer and if the "high command" allows it ( my wife) the ioniser...

I think is very interesting we may put some scientific answer to this long time dilemma.. plume vs mould. Well done @ValeTudoGuy

Update, by far the most common mold found in tobacco is [aspergillus fumigatus] and [oespora tabaci] both contain Mycotoxins that ARE NOT destroyed by the temperatures encountered in burning tobacco and neither can they be destroyed by freezing.

The result of inhalation of these toxins can result in something called [Aflatoxicosis] which can be particularly nasty apparently.

So I for one wont be recommending anyone just wipes it off and smokes it.... You are all adults so proceed as you wish, but I know what I will be doing with moldy sticks.

The most useful thing this perpetual debate has succeeded in is prompting you to get something done about the damp in your home Greg; actually impressed how fast your landlord has moved on this, I had to move Grace to another flat as her landlord didn't do anything meaningful & I didn't want her exposed to airborne mould spores for another winter (fungal lung infections are very tricky to cure). Hope the Misses approves the ioniser too ;O)

We are surprised too, it seems the landlord is happy, I may be paying too much , hahahahaha.
Thanks for your good wishes, the ioniser will help for sure.
