They don't for hunters though was my point, they only pay duty on the tobaco weight, also if you question it they will do it for individuals too. It's not technically a monopoly because you can buy cigars from elsewhere, just not one specific brand (Habanos). Years ago another company did Import habanos but ended up going out of buisness after winning a court case over Hunters, so it is technically possible to do

I just assumed H&F had a exclusive agreement with habanos. That's good to know.

I think they still do?? Or theres no competition which would be strange if it was legal to do so, after all H&F must be making some serious profits on these cigars because taxes alone doesn't account for the prices in the UK.

Yea they do have exclusivity. The basis of the court case (master cigars vs hunters?) was that master cigars was buying direct from Habanos in Cuba by the ten thousands, therefore it wasn't a grey import(illegal under EU law). They won the case but I think went out of buisness because of costs and losing a huge shipment that hunters had impounded pending the outcome of the case.

Visiting Amsterdam for a trip day, it's the perfect excuse to get some dozens of singles and try a nice variety.
Plus the fun of eating at any good restaurant there that day.

The american market ( which does not include Habanos) has offers if you buy more cigars vs singles.... still some good quality cigars can be found from other sources different than cuba.

                Cheers,
