  • Singles vs Boxes

I'm just getting started in my journey with cigars and after smoking quite a few different sticks I'm beginning to know what I like. With this in mind I was thinking of investing in a few boxes to stock my humidor however I was surprised to find then when buying from the major UK retailers there's no real saving in buying a box of say 10 or 25 over buying 10 or 25 single sticks - maybe at best 20p per stick.

Not really looking for a reason I guess but I just wondered if this had always been the case?

    Cheers,

    Harvey

Better of waiting till your on holiday if you want to buy a box..

if you stick around for a few months there will be box splits you can get involved in...they are great as you get to try so many different smokes you wouldn't have thought of buying

I do a little European travel with my job so need to start looking into the LCDH in the areas I work in.

Research the forum with the search box, you can look up countries etc and where to source. Uk prices = expensive. Abroad = cheaper (twice or three times cheaper). Uk = convenient but expensive. Good luck!

The added value in buying a box is literally....the box.

I think it's just a shame at how prices of cigars here have gone up, especially some, in a short space of what ~ 3/4 years...

Nope sorry but tax is not the reason for sky high UK prices. I can buy a D4 on the international market for $6.68 (including international shipping) which is ?5.11 add duty ?1.92 (robusto is 8g, duty is ?240 per kg) and VAT on top for a total of ?8.50. The same D4 from the forum sponsor is ?15.29.

Yeah, that famous Hunters & Frankau quality control (aka EMS) sure is worth all of those extra pounds you pay...

Interesting why this stranglehold has never been questioned by the monopolies commission? Sligub, I can see your maths works for singles but don't forget when bringing in a box or cab, they weigh & include the container too. Won't make the full difference but will add to the cost of each stick.
